I got an alienware once before I realized how simple and cost-effective it was to build your own computer. I was happy with it, and it was top of the line, but I sure wouldn't fall for it again.

You can get much prettier cases/save money/etc/etc/etc by doing it yourself. And honestly, anybody could build their own computer, they just need to get over the fear and have a little help along the way.

Blah, my experience with Alienware wasn't as good. We spent over $3000 (close to $4000) on a new comp from Alienware and it wouldn't even work when we got it. It would freeze up and I couldn't play any games at all.

My whole system was about 4,500 w/ Monitor and Speakers. I love it, the case kicks ass,and it runs every game perfect. I can't complain.

I rather enjoy getting more 3dmarks than 2 of my friends with Alienware systems that cost 2-3x as much as mine did.

Oh, and you can make home-built systems that look *much* better than their crap - that alien logo over the fan grilles (on some models) and the rest of the case looks really tacky.

I would never install any hardware myself. Especially with an Alienware, I would rather leave it to the pros.

My theory is if I put a $600 processor in my computer witha $200 mobo and I fry it, I'm out $800. If I hire someone else to do it, and they fry it, it's their problem. Of course that's totally untrue depending on who you hire but Alienware's #1 aspect that I love is actual customer service and not shitty "Thank you for calling Dell, I have no idea what I'm doing and in fact have never even seen the inside of a computer, but let me just ask you 30 minutes of inane and insulting questions before even asking what your problem is" customer service
