Thumbs up No economy... Good

Personally I think the lack of an economy makes more sense and is actually more realistic for this type of game. I'm pretty sure that those soldiers who fought in Desert Storm (maybe some of you were there?) didn't have to worry about when their next clip or rifle was going to be available and if they were going to have enough cash on hand to pay for it. If they ran out of ammo on the field they just headed back to base and got re-equipped. The U.S. government took care of their needs, and in PlanetSide each of our empires will have a perceived government taking care of us. The developer said it best though when he mentioned that the game was just more FUN without the economy. Well, there it is.

I mean, no thanks, you really dont want money. Money kinda sucks, i.e. in most online games like DAoC I am super-poor and cannot afford crap. I know if there was an economy in the game I'd be running around in my boxers the entire time because I would be so broke.

Angry NO ECONOMY SUCKS

I think that economy is important!!!!

1. Imagine everyone with a lot of money and no longer having to earn things. Phantasy Star Online ended up with a similar fate, but their fate was mostly effected by hackers.

2. It encourages players to work together to gain money and builds teamwork.

3. If money goes over it's economic limit, the server can detect a hacker who is trying to get rich and ruin things for everyone else.

4. Empires gain more or less control through it's currency AND territory. Economy is key to war. Without it, the storyline goes a bit stale after a while, and I really look forward to this game.

5. Killing people with the bigger and better weapons sounds fun, and it is, but it gets boring if it happens too often, so it's better to add economy so it would be harder to get money, and as a result, harder to get the better weapons.

6. If people want to have power, it must be displayed through talent and NOT through what weapon they have!!!!

So I conclude, the fact that there is no economy = more killing my sound like the greatest bloodbath ever, which it is, but we must make that bloodbath special

Depends on how you define economy.

Economy is defined in the dictionary as
the management of the resources of a community, country, etc., especially with a view to its productivity.
When running any outfit, the resources as described here are the troops under your command, and the assets they have to do their mission with. The productivity is the positive results of your mission. You win a battle and take a base, your productivity is good, thus increasing your sphere of influence. The amount of casualties and lost equipment is the "negative cash flow" you experienced as a result of taking said base. The less losses, the less it cost to assume control of this asset, thus the better your "economy" is.

I see this as a beautiful, if different, way of utilizing an economy without being hassled with a silly bank account and ATM card and all the attached fees.

I agree Mani. The word economy implies actual use of currency, but the is a mis-conception. Use of resources and such is a part of the game that will be there and will mean that there is a concern for utilization without worrying about not having a gun to shoot with b/c you are broke. I like it much better this way.

money would be obsolete in this kinda future setting too, first we have nano technology which can rebuild the molecular *dont mind my bad spelling* structure of anything...humans alike...and weapons and vehicles which is why this game uses nanobots for repairting and construction for war cheap and highly effective...besides if the empires want to win a war theyll equip yah with alright gear.

I love the idea of no economy

in Ultima Online, I had a castle, 23 mil, and NOTHING to do, there was nothing left to do, I had done it all and had ntohing to work toward and could kill peeps in 2 hits with my vanq battle axe

so no economy sounds good to me, everyone will be on a level field with me, I'll have no advantage over them except for plain SkillZ! and maybe implemants
