you can fly a reaver or mosquito really really good?
I'd be more, nay, not more, I'd be impressed at all if the flight model in PS wasn't the same recycled bullshit that sucked in Tribes 2. seriously, what skill does it take to fly a plane that has no rolling capability and doesn't need to worry about flight energy management? the harrier is VTOL just exactly like the reaver is, and they still teach flight energy management for them because VTOL does NOT mean helicopter style flying. I mean hell, even helicopters use that kind of manuevering, just not as much as a fixed-wing plane. the flight model sucks ass, and they even had battle field 1942 as a shining example of how it should have been done. edit: any and all anger/venom in this message is not directed at the original poster. I've always been touchy about the P.O.S. flight model they slapped together in the ass-end of someone's garage.

In my opinion, BF's flight model is ASS, while Tribes 2/PlanetSide is not flight at all, just hovering. If you want a REAL flying model (huge learning curve, not for the weak of heart), try IL-2 Sturmovik ( www.il2sturmovik.com ).
I'm also a flight sim player.

The gun kata treats the gun as a total weapon, each fluid position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents while keeping the defender clear of the statistically traditional trajectories of return fire. By the rote mastery of this art, your firing efficiency will rise by no less than 120%. The difference of a 63% increase to lethal proficiency makes the master of the gun katas an adversary not to be taken lightly. |

I believe the game is too fast paced to really have a flight model that is uber realistic, it'd be too hard. I think that right now, the flight model is good. One thing though: I wish they would raise the flight ceiling to maybe 500 ft instead of 400 (its too low on certain continents)

Why the hell is it called a "flight model"?!
Anyway, I don't think the BF1942 "flight model" was supposed to be insanely realistic. BF is thoroughly arcadey and unrealistic, the only reason it is popular at all is because of it's ability to blend vehicles and infantry together, and the fact that its an EA game so has all that advertising, AND the fact that a MP demo was released. :P Sure, OFP was around years before BF, but OFP isnt arcadey enough for most people, and the netcode is ass... Then again, the BF netcode is ass too. Bah. PS is pretty good netcode wise, considering the scale of the battles. Last edited by Hexen; 2003-07-14 at 07:49 PM. |
