Best Horror movies of all time

yeah i'm serious too spider same goes for me. And the ring wasn't scary, i don't care what anyone says. I bought it, figured it must have been since everyone i know is saying it is...it's not, i actually found it pretty humerous

haven't seen 28 days yet, but it actually seems like it might be kind of scary...then again it'll probobly be another gorefest (i'm not complaining )

METHINKS you foriegn non americans suk at making movies with a vengance.(Not including Japan Anime of course!) But as far as being scary, well it didnt SCARE me but got close for a 'movie' and that says a lot to me that it freaked me out a little. It was a great movie a masterpeice sorta like a twisted '6th sense' type of movie.

didn't mean making movies, i know 95% of anything made outside of the states isn't all that great, and i mean even being freaked out. I didn't find the 6th sense did anything either, watch it, stay interested, get up and go on the comp, go to sleep, go for a walk at 2am

and i like the word methinks (yes it is a word, and if not it's a word, edgar allan poe used it a couple times, so that counts

And i'll agree, the majority of the ones listed so far are great movies, not argueing there

Yea the 80's flick when the boy was in the corn or whatever field and ran into ET and ET started going ape shit, I freaked! But I was like 10 then so its all cool.

Ok here we go...Horror movies are my speciality... Alright first off Evil Dead 1-2 ( Army Of Darkness) were quite possibly three of the greatest movies made, let alone horror movies...Stephen King liked the concept of the first one so much that he offered then fledgling director Sam Raimi ( later to direct The Gift and Spider-Man) money for the production. But the BEST horror movie I have ever seen was Last House On The Left by Wes Craven ( it was his college film), who some of you more avid horror fans will know as the creator of Freddy Krueger, which is another awesome horror series if your into the 80's style of slasher film. The movie was amazing...warning do not watch if your faint of heart because the premis of the movie is quite brutal...Another excelent Horror movie was Buried Alive, not the Ally Sheedy one with Fish Toxin of a similar name, Buried Alive is about a taxedermest gone bad and his dominatrix assistant, sounds weird but the gore was stupendous.
Thirdly Dead Alive which is a New Zealand based horror movie nominated as the goriest movie ever made...watch it its funny as hell and there is an excelent scene with a lawnmower.
There are other classic horror films, Night Of The Living Dead ( I had the pleasure of meeting the director/and special effects artist of), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Cannibal Holocaust, Friday the 13th, etc.
Lastly we cannot forget the ill fated Halloween series. Hands down Halloween 1 was soo beautifuly done right down to the original scores...John Carpenter ( The Thing) is one of the greatest directors period, not just of the horror movie genre. Though after Halloween 2 the series took a dreadful plunge and during the way lost its mainstay ( actor Donald Plesence) who passed away. Halloween H20 promised a new beginning for the then stale series and remains among my favorite modern teen horror flicks( along -side the Faculty).
Alright I'm done...Horror movies are awesome...period.

I'm a huge horror movie fan myself. When I'm watching a horror movie I don't get scared much at all. What I'm looking for is something that actually has a plot and keeps me either a) on the edge of my seat or b) has a couple of real good twists and turns.

With those guidelines let me mention some of my favorites:
The Ring - some people loved it, some people hated it. I was a real big fan of it. Great plot line, was not predictable at all.

Sixth Sense - Phenomenally well done. Another great plot line.

Signs - Done by the same director of Sixth Sense. This had such a Hitchcock feel to it. Some people also hated this movie but I thought it was real good.

Army of Darkness - Best campy movie of all time. In one scene where an actor is blown into the air you can actually see the wires holding him up. Nothing is better than being drunk off your ass and watching this movie.

In the Mouth of Madness - John Carpenter movie that keeps you guessing what is going on. Loved the ending. After I saw the movie I sat there, taking in what was going on.

Some of the classics: Exorcist; Alien; Shining (Nicholson improvised the "Here's Johnny" line; Halloween (boy did they destory that series); Psycho; Children of the Corn

Well, I'm sure a bunch of you guys will disagree with my picks, but I have a very distinct style of horror movies that I like.

Only one that didn't need the victims to have IQ of 10: Alien.
Okay, that's more sci-fi, but it's the closest to actual "horror" a movie has ever brought to me.

Alien is such an over-rated film. Aliens? Now that was a good film! Not a horror though. Anyway, best horror films, although none actually scared me:

Dawn of the Dead
(Not so much as the prequels) Day of the Dead
The Thing
The Thing from another world (Better than the above remake)
Aliens (If you count that as a horror film)

I really love watchin horror movies at the movies, so many people are scared. I saw 28 Days Later with my friend, he told me to hit him if he jumped. I hit him 3 times Anybody seen Red Dragon? The prequil to Silence of the Lambs? I was the only person in the theater laughing my ass off! Same in JasonX.
