No, but a pounder with his back to the tower CC can cover above and below, and some do that. Sure, coming from above is a good tactic, if you have a Gal about or can be bothered to wait while someone goes to get one. I like the pounder, but i think ALL MAXs need to be effective like that.
another tactic is to use the rocklet on secondary fire, it fires all its shots even as you die, and a full rocklet clip does more dmage than one decimator shot. Still not enough to take down a MAX without reload though. |

Remember most pounder users would rather get huge XP from killing the hordes of zergers coming from below than the odd hotdrop on the roof, so thats why they do it this way, selfish i know. Against Vanu you HAVE to defend upwards or their MAXs come at you from behind coz some arse is stupid enough to go out onto the balcony and let them in.

If you browse the SOE forums you'll see a lot of focus on the Pounder MAX now. IMO, there is no better weapon for taking out a Max indoors than a Decimator. I fear no Max, including the Pounder, when I have my Decimators on me.
As was stated, Surge + Decimator on seconday fire mode = a dead max before they know what hit them. Every empire has their day in the "overpowered barrel" as I like to call it. It was the NC Jackhammer for a while. Then the Lasher, and now its the Pounder. It shouldn't really be a surprise either. The numbers have shown Vanu players gave little thought to using AV or SA and put a lot of stock in the Lasher for their Max killing needs. Now that its been reduced, many seem to be having a hard time adjusting. I read a lot of negative posts on the SOE boards this weekend(work was slow) in regards to the Pounder. The majority of the ones I read were started by Vanu players. |

Unfortuntaley though, the Pounder MAX can't really be compared to a weapon you can place on your back. I don't see what's so appealing about MAX units in general, you can't use any equipment when suited in one and when it comes down to it, they're easily beaten.

As long as this game exists there will ALWAYS be some weapon being critisized as over-powered. It will change as the game changes, but there will always be a weapon "targetted" as needing a nerf. Notice how all the JH is overpowered threads suddenly went away when the Lasher was buffed? Yet there was no change to the JH. Thats what I call the "Overpowered Barrel". Its the Pounders turn in the barrel from what I'm seeing on the SOE boards. It's catching a lot of heat now as being overpowered. TR Maxes in general are startnig to come under more fire than normal because now that the Lasher has been nerfed, something else needs to be targetted. And if your curious about my barrel reference. Its from an old joke that goes something like this: A man gets a job with an oil company and gets sent out to work on a remote oil compound. After a couple of months he starts getting really horny due to the complete lack of women there. So he asks one of the old guys "What do you guys do for sex?" Old guy: "Oh you see that barrel over there with the holes in it?" New guy: "Yeah." Old guy: "Just go over there and stick your wanker in there." New guy: "Umm, ok." That didn't make much sense to him, but mother nature got the best of him and he went over to the barrel. He did as instructed and he suprisingly got pleased and taken care of. The next day he sees the old man. New guy: "Hey I tried the barrel! It was great! Thanks for the advice. I'm going to go there everyday!" Old guy: "Everyday but Thursday." New guy: "Why not Thursday?" Old guy: "That your day in the barrel." |
