Thats the general idea. AV maxes do so little damage though that you could just back off for a few seconds before killing them from outside their range.

A thumper can do the same thing.

I don't think this change is even needed, have you driven a vehicle recently? Since the last patch everyone and their brother has an AV cert. You can't drive 20 feet without being blown up by various AV weapons.

(Not complaining, personally enjoy the new changes.)

Actually, I would say that it's not that AV MAXes are underpowered, but that vehicles are drastically overpowered. That's why AV Weapons in general are so pathetic against tanks. If the armor on vehicles are lowered dramatically, then all AV wouldn't need any improvements. Instead of buffing a whole line of weapons and MAXes up, we just need to nerf certain vehicles to bring some balance back (though tweaking shields and vehicle weapons might be necessary as well).

Yep, and for the 5% of playtime where they come into play in these scenarios they'd be quite handy for the AV crowd. Of course, if the vehicle is close enough to get jammered in that scenario they're well within Thumper range and it could happen anyhow. Even at a tower a tank can get far enough under the catwalk to be unhittable. Really, you think that people plopped on the base walls is going to unbalance the game? Let's get real.

Dynamite, the problem is that, whether you like it or not, AV weapons have been buffed, IMHO to the point were they can be highly devestating to any vehicle in large numbers. AV MAXes need to be able to catch up with handheld AV users, or they'll become entirely un-certed.

ya everybody has AV now. today us NC(emerlad) were hackin a Tower on Ceryshen by the TR warpgate. A Prowler decides to come out of gate and make a charge at the tower. From out of nowhere like 7 or 8 pheonix missles get it down to half health in like 4 secounds then the i decide to finish it off with my reaver but the point is another 6 secounds or so it would have been killed by mainly Pheonixs(AV)weapons.

PS: PHEONIX ROCKS!

Unfortunately just how effective AV weapons should be a vehicles is a sensative issue and something that's really damn hard to balance. You kinda have to decide how you want that aspect of the game to work before you can suggest any constructive ideas. Do you want infantry to be able to take out tanks? If yes how many do you need to effectively do so? Should infantry even have a fighting chance against vehicles if the infantry is out in the open?

As far as the AV MAXs go, I really don't think there's much you can do. MAXs are too slow to compete with vehicles in open terrain and if you make them powerful enough to compete with vehicles based soley on their firepower, they're going to have to be able to kill vehicles nearly as fast as vehicles kill them which I think is moving the balance too far the other way. Are tanks then too powerful agsainst MAXs as it stands? I don't really think so no. I think a tank should be able to slaughter a slow moving target in the open. The more I consider it the more I'm beggining to agree, the AV MAX is kind of a flawed idea.

The AV MAXes need a signifigant increase in damage against armored vehicles but without affecting their ability against other MAXes. This idea is a bit complicated, but bear with me.
1)All-around reduction of ROF with a corisponding buff to damage per shot.
2)Increase the "hardness" of Tank armor while decreaseing the total actual armor value.
3)This allows tanks to take less damage per shot from light weapons, but the AV MAXes would be able to better penetrate their armor because the "hardness" can only absorb a set ammount of damage per shot.
4)You may have to tweak the hardness of all vehicles and AP damage of weapons to maintain balance of those weapons.
