"Gold" refers to the master copy (Gold disc) having been produced, therefore being ready for mass production :>

Anyways, I hate UT, I've always hated UT and I always will hate UT. Jumping around like a fucking monkey should not be a viable tactic, not so much because it shouldn't work (although it probably shouldn't) but because it's really really stupid. UT was amusing at LAN parties, I'll grant you that, but that was more because of the total lack of copy protection then from any true joy that came from playing it.

Saying it's like Tribes without the jetpacks makes no sense, since without the jetpacks Tribes would have been just another FPS game, and probably a rather shitty one at that now that I think about it. The defining feature of Tribes, as far as gameplay goes, was the mobility players had. It's what seperated it from any other FPS games. I mean, hell, the nerf to skiing in Tribes 2 (which was really wasn't much of a nerf if you knew what you were doing btw) is what turned a lot of people off to the game.
Lol, did you play either? I mean really, I understand that you have a predisposition towards the UT series, but download the demo for 2k4.

And I said that the Onslaught Mode in UT2K4 was like tribes w/o jetpacks, the mobility and increased game speed with vech's thrown in.

I know the that the defining part of Tribes was the jetpacks, but that doesnt mean that its the thing to the game. And obviously that tribes "feeling" I get from ONS mode is limited, since I have played only one map.

/edit/ as far as the download, just play the ONS mode, maybe you'll get that Tribes "feel" from it. I know that me and a few friends had said the same thing before, but the interesting thing about ONS is that for the most part you have a vech, or you die. Not much that monkey hoping can help with.

Unreal 2004 beat PlanetSide in that they didn't feel the need to make people wait 35 seconds to respawn. Respawn penalties are something worthy of the fetid mind of Raph Koster. They suck. Bad.

I can't count the number of times I've spawned at sanc and logged out rather than wait 35 seconds.

PlanetSide could take a lesson from Unreal. There is no point in punishing your players. None. It doesn't increase the 'strategical approach' of the game and it doesn't win friends. In a game where Heavy Assault is 'pay more for a bigger gun', time penalties are pure retardation. Just think how long it takes to run from the spawn room to the courtyard. That should be penalty enough.

Yea, agreed. It's not like it even really affets the balance of the game. You get to die again in 5 seconds, or 30. It's pretty silly, just pisses people off :/
