Can you really blame the middle-eastern countrys for raping our asshole every chance they get?

They fucking hate the US, this is just the way to get back at us. Even though we really never did anything wrong besides being the greatest country on earth.

Jealous bastards

I propose that everyone here grabs a Vanguard and an MCG, and we go raid OPEC.

It's a shame, Americans always complain about expensive petrol, but compared to British petroleum prices, its a bargain!
Honestly, you lot take it for granted...

Damnit! WTF can't we drill in Alaska? It's all snow and ice up there anyway! *end narrow minded redneck stereotype attitude*

Honestly though, Alaska is so f'in huge we could afford to at least tap into some of its oil. I mean that is why we bought the damn thing back in the 50's. I want it to go back to a year and a half ago when prices were at 95 cents to 1 dollar.

We can't drill it because its one of the few natural places left in the US.

But it's Alaska! It's so cold! I bet probably less than 10 percent of the US population will ever visit there. I see your point and I share your views on industrialization. Recently some asshole who owns a convenience store on our corner cut down about 5 or 6 acres of woods behind his store because the county wouldn't let him move his gas pumps back a few feet. What a dickwad, he actually infringed upon my good friend's property while doing it, and my friend is laying a lawsuit of 10k on him for breaching his property and for violating the buffer zone of privacy. I guess I'm like the people someone mentioned earlier in the thread. I have no qualms about industrializing a place as long as it's not near me. Call it selfish, because it probably is, but I think they could afford to drill somewhere. Maybe in a place that is not designated as a park and doesn't have any wildlife (wasteland).

The euro(not british, I know) is around 1.5 the value of the dollar. May have gone up since the dolalrs value has just been shit on. And I think that a gallong of gas over in the UK costs about 5 euro?

5x1.5

thats about 7.5 dolalrs a fucking gallon.

This sucks, as I drive a lot, but Im not gonna bitch.

Speaking as an econimist, OPEC is a Cartel or a.k.a "collusion" which often "fixes' price's instead of letting the free market determine the price. Typically collusion doesn't last long as the urge to sell at a lower price than thier nieghbors/competitors to reap a higher profit becomes evident. However, given the current geo-political situation, the unity of the cartel may be stronger than usual and hence could last much longer.

As for Alaska, the State Government to my understanding is more than willing to drill. The issue is the Oil is on Federal Lands and thus subject to Federal Regulations. Depending on the current circumstances of environment, bureacracy and Congress, permission to drill may not be available. Drillers state that the technology is there to drill with minimal impact, but environmental groups often critisize as being too optomistic.

The weak dollar may also be contributing to the price. Granted a week dollar usually increases exports and generally helps in an economy (providing jobs, etc.), but importing energy could offset such gains possibly. More research is needed to determine the exact effect.

European price's have always been higher vs. the US. But its important to note that Public Transportation in Europe is far more developed than in the US. Hence, automobiles are relied upon much more heavily until public transportation in the US catches up.

Now speaking from myself......FUCK THEM!!! Drill the damn wells in Alaska! Impact of drilling would be minimal! There just making a stink (and they do since they don't shave...anywhere). Tree hugging hippies can take hike up Rabid Grizzly Trail for all I care! Screw the UN on this as well. Lets do what the Arabs keep saying were there for. Lets suck Iraq dry and leave it. They want to call us invaders...fine lets be invaders and tell them if they don't shape up, thier next. /rant

It's because the Indians up there are bitching about how it's unnatural to be drilling there. Never mind that they shoot the deer from the backs of modern-day snowmobiles with high-powered rifles.
