I don't know what you guys expect when you watch wrestling. its no different than going to see a play. only, there's more sweaty men and fire.
real wrestlers are gay too. just because. all that on the floor man on man action is gay. unless its like UFC or PRIDE, dudes straight out trying to kill each other. love it. |

So in closing, is Wrestling dumb? Yes, very much so. Is it staged? Obviously so, but then so are movies . Is it dumb because the wrestlers are pussies? No, not even close. It's dumb, at least to me, because a soap opera that has some staged fights, with large men who can't act, appeals to me even less than a soap opera full of pretty boys and haggard old women who also have the acting skills of a highschool drama troupe.

Notice why it's called WWE now. World Wrestling Entertainment
It's not meant to be real looking. It's supposed to be kinda like a circus. Not trying to defend it or anything, but you were barking up the wrong tree. edit: real wrestling is not gay and requires a lot of prowess and talent. I myself wrestled for 4 years and got quite good at it. |

WWE is a show, pure entertainment. Its not supposed to be ultimate fighting or fightclub etc. They're not aiming for realism, just to entertain the crowds and putting on a show. Half the fun in the WWE is the storylines they have, promos, generally whacky stuff they do and the characters they have.
Its kinda like a soap but instead of talking they beat eachother up. And yeh, WWE matches are scripted and fake, but hey its just a show. btw if you want to see it for yourself i think RAW airs tonight over there in the US. |

Everybody got their thing!
Wrestling is fake, but don't doubt that they are some of the toughest SOB's to walk the earth! I used to be a fan in my youth but grew out of it (not to mention wrestling today is getting kinda sucky!) so let me set a few things straight. 1) Any time you see blood in wrestling it's real. As best I can tell there is no exception to this rule. Take a razor, wrap it in tape, then cut yourself on one of the creases in your forehead. If done right it will heal leaving no mark and will blead like a MOFO (some wrestlers have been known to take some Anti-coagulants to help) 2) It hurts. 3) It's scripted... but not really. Let me explain. Both ambiguosly gay guys know the outcome, but the show they put on is up to them. That's why quality can vary so greatly from match to match. Math carefully and you'll see them talking to each other in the ring all the time! 4) You try performing at a high level of athleticism while still keeping your mind about you enough to not break your own, or your opponenets neck for 10-15 minutes. As a matter of fact get a timer, get a heavy bag, and punch it for 5 minutes straight, hard as you can. Then you'll know what it's like to wrestle! Just thought I'd set any isconceptions straight... no pun intended!

i agree with aztec, a dude in my outfit loves WWE (its not wwf, they changed it because the world wildlife foundation got pissed) and hes a brit living in texas, so i dunno what happened
since my family is european and i am aswell we hate this stuff and think its gay, they get paid huge sums of money for stage fighting, and aren't even that good, yeah it is pretty homosexual but one show on TV caught my attention, MTV's Tough Enough was kinda interesting. They took a huge audition of people, sorta like american idol, and turned them into wrestlers. Now this seemed pretty intense. They had to run through a desert 15 miles with 15% of their body weight in a backpack. Then they had to train and do all this other stuff and get eliminated from it. It came down to two people. Some even quit claiming it was too much of a challenge and had mental breakdowns. Now unless this was all fake and was a setup it seems very intense. The guy who left because it was too mentally tough, Jonas was his name, lives near me and I have met him. He seems like a normal guy. This entire wrestling thing puzzles me because they go through so much becoming a wrestler, but when they do it just seems really easy and stupid. I assure you that the people on tough enough were having a hard time.

If you turn on the TV and watch either RAW, Smackdown or one of thier refresher show's and expected to see *real* wrestling, you were in the wrong place. If you want realism, you were in the wrong place. "Real" wrestling does not sell enough to put butts in seats and does not garnish ratings. If you saw a "real" wrestling match...you would be fast asleep. The wrestling you see now is just flat out show, period. Its not supposed to be realistic, people are not supposed to be seriously injured and its strictly supposed to do one thing....entertain/amuse you. To watch WWE you have to "suspend" reality.
I disagree that wrestling is bullshit. With the right frame of mind (in other words, just enjoy the show...and it is just a show), it can be very entertaining. With that being said, If you said the WWE was Bullshit, I would probally still disagree. I would say WWE as of late has sucked, blown and swallowed all at once. Matches are very sloppy, storlines have little continuitiy, or orginality. Since the Monday night wars have ended, the only thing the WWE has had to do is to see if it can lick its own groin. Hopefully NWA will actually become formidable and force competition in the business. Then I just might be able to see some good shows put on by the two companies. If not, more planetside. |
