Mine runs at 333mhz FSB TOTAL, so 166, you have an advantage there. I don't have a 512k L2 Cache, it's not a barton core, its a Thoroughbred B core.

Compare specs -
2800+
Total Clock Speed - 2250mhz
FSB - 333mhz
Volts - 1.65
L1 Cache - 128kB
L2 Cache - 256 kB (Full)

Celery 2.4
Total Clock Speed - 2400mhz
FSB - 400mhz
Volts - 1.3
L1 Cache - 32kB (High compared to a P4 L1 Cache - 8kB Data + 12kB ETC)
L2 Cache - 256kB

Overall, your CPU should be better than mine, especially at the speeds you're running it at. The only major difference I can see is L1 cache size, but it's always small for Intel CPUs.

I am preaty sure my CPU has only a 128kB cache

and its not clock for clock that matters, you have an Athlon XP, they run much faster clock per clock, and overall FSB speed doesn't mean much, my memory speed is limited to 234 because of my FSB (117) or asyncronus i can run it at 266, you howver can run its syncronously at ddr333 because of your FSB at 166mhz

It does, for L1 cache. Have to take both into account, L2 being the most Important.

Intel Celeron Specs

A Celeron 2.4 does fuck all operations per clock when compared to an Athlon 2800+. It is all about architecture. A 2800+ is comparable to a P4 2.8|533MHz FSB and it will perform significantly better than his OCed Celeron. It should, it costs a shit load more. AMD have proven that clock speed isn't everything.

A 9600XT is also way way waayyyy better than an FX5600. Take that into account aswell, it is a huge performance difference.

OnT: 1GB sure does help alot. You should get a 2.6 at 800 FSB and OC the crap out of it. Can get them up around 3.1-3.4 with air cooling, 3.0 is safe with stock cooling. You could use your RAM to the best of its abilities that way. Your current FPS are limited by your GFX card a little aswell. I have a Pixelview FX5600U, the damn thing comes stock OCed with 256MB DDR2 and I still average 20-25 FPS in an uber zerg with eye candy off, with a P4 3.0 OCed to 3.4|1GB DDR400 running 5:4 (not happy about that, need faster RAM ffs). All in all, looks like a good upgrade, can play in any circumstance.

::Eagerly awaits his 1 gig of Kingston HyperX PC3500::

Should be here today or tomorrow....

can't wait to OC it up to like 230mhz, and get my AMD 64 3200+ running at 1:1 with the RAM (2300mhz).

Couple that with my Radeon 9800 PRO, and I should be gettin some serious frames...

even if u could get 2 tb of ram, and a supercomp could play games, which it can't, only like maybe 5 gigs of that would be used. What's the point of the extra? Big ass movie editing?
