As a result, I've ruled them out of my quest for a laptop, and am being directed - surprisingly - to eMachine laptops from an array of desktop-building-nerds. The new one has 512 ram, 80gig harddrive, an ATI 9600 graphics card, and an Athlon 64 processor for $2,000 less than what Alienware wanted for the same thing.

Anyways, Dell you pay for what it's worth. Thumbs up on Dell laptops, and their service is by far respectable. Best so far. EDIT: Toshiba is good, their service is top notch, but unsure about Warranty.

The thing I really like about Dell's is, they have the option to buy the service plan that covers if you drop the laptop or spill something on it.
It's an especially tempting offer to go with Dell just for that, since I use the laptop on roadtrips and would be ripshit if it broke halfway to Buffalo.
