one of my teachers had a quilt hanging up with different patterns on it, like alternating colors and in one block of it you could see a huge swastika..

As for those who mentioned before, the swastika was taken from the Buddist "FALUN Law Wheel" theology, which is a sort of heavenly map of all the levels of this world and the next and the heavenly laws.
It is used mainly as a symbol of good luck, prosperity, and long life.

The original symbol is a mirror image of the one the nazi used, so if you flip the Nazi one, you will have the proper one.
