It was stated in the magazine, or somewhere else, that the one-man version of the BFRs can fly. The two man version packs heavy ordinance. Paraphrased of course, but basically the above.

And yet we both know that that's what going to happen, as the developers seem commited to keeping airpower dominant, and if the flying varient was an air to air hunter they most likely wohuld have mentioened it by now.

Yep, you're right. It'll probably just be a generic "durrr guns shoot ground targets gud!" aircraft like the Reaver, but the developers have been making some good decisions lately, and I would like to try and remain optimistic that perhaps aircraft will some day be the most effective way to deter other aircraft.

Before i start ya i know i said i was leaving PSU but i have to comment on this

After you all get done with the hype of saying OMFG big ass things with big ass guns to shoot up shit and what not;

1.You should realise that with this your going to see the 7 day trial guy just spending points in mechs and rip all the vets a new ass.

1b. Yes the vets will aslo have these mechs, everyone will! we will never see any other vech. Well we will see aircraft on the TR and NC side.

2. Can anyone think of a word that is going to be heard after these thing are realsed? A word that is commonly used when people get pissed? A word that someone would use when they think that they are the underdog? Well kidies that word is NERF and it will be all over the fourms.

Oh and if they think that this will intise us to go down to the Core then well maybe it will but that means that everyone that doesnt have CC has to get it. This is the only high point i can see in the whole thing. Due to the CC is sorta fun to fight on.

Planetside better change its name to Mechwarrior Online due to thats all your going to see.

Feel free to comment on this, i know that I'm going to get mixed reviews on what i said but thats to be expected

Actually, it was mentioned earlier that an attuning process will be required before being able to use the BFRs. It was also mentioned that having Core Combat was needed to use the BFRs. I don't feel the attuning process will be quick and easy, rather it will be a difficult journey for players.

One of the checks used to make sure (that has been revealed by the developers) that the BFRs are not super weapons is that they will be susceptible to small arms fire from infantry. Thus a well coordinated assault by a squad of infantry can take these things out.

I don't know what they're going to do about BFRs stepping on people. But like I commented earlier, it'd be funny to see a BFR fall over after stepping on an infantry unit.

The developers have not released enough information regarding the ways they will balance the BFRs for anyone to pass judgement and begin calling Planetside, MechWarrior.

Give it a chance people. It deserves at least that much.

Edit: Back on topic though, I like how the BFRs look. Uncanny resemblance to MechWarrior though, I have to admit that. The TR BFR does look somewhat like a Cauldron Born mech, the NC BFR reminds me of the Bushwacker, the VS BFR looks nice, but I don't quite like how the head is suspended.

I have a difficult time imagining something which is 20 meters tall, has a timer longer than 5 minutes, and is already got a reputation for being dangerous doing a hell of a lot. They will be easy to hit (though the VS one is pretty narrow, the TR and NC ones are big and bulky targets), easy to bomb, easy enough for even Reaver pilot to blast away at, and of course they're supposedly vulnerable to infantry weapons. Once one of these gets into a fight, they will be taking some massive damage. If they do end up being overpowered, that's fine, we'll all have our own to cancel the enemy's out until they are made more reasonable.

Oh, and specifically re: the "tear the vets apart" bit, anyone can do that already by just certing Reaver.

I have a feeling they will have nice damage but low atack rate when it comes to attacking in a swarm. So you will prabably be attacking large targets with them mostly. And they are vulnerable to infantry attacks... So you will need, like in many mech situations, a surrounding armor to support them tactically for them to survive long enough to be worth using(except in this case you dont support with fuel you support with protection from infantry etc). So people probably shouldnt scream nerf untill theyve figured out the tactics they put around using it safely. I think another part of thse mechs is to centralize combat tactics in the field also. Through the things i just stated.

ON top of that, If they are strong against small gruops all of the time, it may wipe out to an extent very small attacks or movement in the feild(VS especially which is sorta a good tactic for them and i think the point of ours flying) and force feild battles back into larger more strategically focused arena.

I don't really like the VS one, too anime for my tastes.

The TR and NC both look cool, the NC one looks similar to the raptor from G-Police: Weapons of Justice

The attuning process was discussed in an interview with SmokeJumper by HomeLan. I can't seem to find the article, but it said that an attuning process (whatever that might mean) would be required with the AI core of the BFR. Or something to the similar extent. This attuning process must be completed in the caverns. After the attuning process, getting a BFR is as easy as getting any other vehicle. Of course, the timer is much longer. Longer than 5 minutes, that is for sure.

BattleFrames (official name for these big f'ing robots) are heavy tanks, and such are designed to take on other vehicles solely.

I love how the shield generators fit into the overall design of the individual mechs. I can't seem to find the shield generator on the TR BFR though....maybe I'm not looking hard enough or something.

I hope the VS BFR wil be able to use those wings (Voltron!)
