ok, Freelancer 2, is a long game, good game too, though i found it annoying most of the time my wingmen were all dead by the end of the mission, and on one very important mission against a enemy cap ship, it ended up at one point being me, freindly big cap ship, and enemy big cap ship, unrealistic in that persepective, but the missions, are hella fucking fun, if you ever played StarLancer, the game before Freelancer and enjoyed it, youll love Freespace 2, because they are identical in all but story, and ships, though some of the weapons were similar.
Starwars, now, if your looking for a graphical game in the starwars line, the closest thing to is Xwing Alliance, sure, Tie fighter is fun and all, but i dont think i can run it anymore due to my computer being so advanced, so the only two options are Xwing vs Tiefighter or Xwing alliance, pick both up, they both rock, graphics dont really matter though, theyre acceptable to me Freelancer, is okay, but youll only be getting about 20 hours of gameplay, then about 10 more while you get bored with it, because after the storyline, there is nothing to keep you in that game unless you like flying around, completing identical missions, killing off bandits that attack you for no reason besides that your faction standing is off with them and hunting for items. the first game in this series that i mentioned above, is loosely connected to it, infact, all they chare in common is that the freelancer intro mentions a war about 800 years ago, thats the one you fight in in StarLancer, now starlancer, i played about a dozen times on the Dreamcast, that game, fucking rocked, nuff said. as for universal combat and battlecruiser, let me put it to you like this, those games, were made by a infamous developer by the name of Derek Smart, now smart has made 12 games or so over 14 years, all of this battle cruiser games are practicaly identical, and attempt to be the jack of all trades, but they fall extremly short in mastering any, ground combat blows and is extremly boring, air combat feels off and is a bitch to do, sea combat i didnt get to try, fighter space craft combat leaves you with the tactical awareness of a blind misquito, and capital ship combat feels like your flying a fighter, minus the misquito part. all in all, it sucks. AND that sorry sack of shit, which he is, but ill admit, those that argue hes a okay guy do have their points, but im talking from a gamer stand point, not a inperson standpoint, is trying to get his hands on freespace 3, and has said, does not and will not, listen to the input of his consumer base, IE the hard core Freespace people. |

EVE and EnB aren't space sims, they're RPGs.
Xwing VS Tie rocks, it's old, but fucking FUN, X2 is also fun Freelancer is pretty good too, just gets boring after the campaign, since there's no motivation to get anything, since you have one of the best ships in the game, have been almost everywhere, and all the "missions" after the campaign are the same (take cargo to place, kill/capture fugitive, that's about it) etc. |

I liked X2 and Freelancer. There were elements of each game I didnt like, and elements I loved. If only they could combine the economic coolness, ability to buy and fly battleships, space stations and anything you wanted from X2, with the ease of control, the people that actually look like people, and the cool atmosphere of freelancer.

Freespace 2 was the shit. If you can get it and play it, do it. I'd love to see Volition do a Freespace 3 or sell its rights to another quality company because I want to know what happens with the rest of the war against the Shivans.
As for Derek Smart, he IS shit. He has made so many promises and talked up so much bullshit hype and kept the gaming industry hypnotized by his crap. If he ever got his hands on the rights to do Freespace 3 I would put a bullet in his head because he'd screw up an awesome series. |
