aghh, if its modern, then you might aswell play joint ops, sci-fi allows all sort of things that modern and WW2 combat doesn't, and is more realistic than RPG's which are fantasy, because they're based on mythical stories long gone, or whatever

i think a developing army would be cool, sorta half way between here and the future,

Perhaps this time the infantry weapons will be designed by somebody who's actually pulled the trigger on a real weapon. Please, Sony, no more weapons broken into three categories: small, medium and large.

I think they said something about it being sci-fi still.. I'm not sure though

Know what? your right, sci-fi would defintley be better, because like you said, why not play joint ops, if it free and allows 150+ people to play. Sci-fi is so much more fun anyways.

u know, you might aswell not even buy that, just DL the demo, it's got 3 good servers at any one time at least, sure only one map, but when i cant get a single kill anyway, why would i want more maps???

Planetside failed because it sat completely stagnant for so long. There were no attempts at engine upgrades and bugs that should have been fixed in the first week were around a year later. Then all of a sudden the devs kicked in and released CC and AS when they didn't test anything and caused hundreds of people to quit. Then again with the release of WoW and EQ2 more people left, entire oufits infact. (I saw three go, adding up to more than 200 people.) Finally there was the compete lack of PS advertising on the scale that new games should get, for instance I still see stuff for the original EQ on TV. So this is a very good move for SOE. Planetside is fun sometimes, but it is past its prime.

PlanetSide didn't fail, it proved the feasability of MMOFPS games. It was successful in its own right, and may better things come as a result of it.

More like the beta testers for a genre. Now all companies know that mmofps games are feasible. We'll likely see a lot of different titles in the future, not just SOE's new game.
