Wrong: The discovery, that HAL is inside of, is orbiting jupiter, so it goes "behind" jupiter every so often, emulating a planetary rotation day/night cycle, it just so happens it orbits with a speed roughly in tune with north america's day/night cycle. Thus, HAL's morning is Hamma's morning.
