Good idea.

Tap 'n' wait, and you are available for a rez to be initiated until your respawn timer is up, yes? Best of both worlds, without the slot-machine "tap or not tap" guessing game of whether a medic will appear, whether he likes you enough to bother, etc.

Yep.

I guess the part about letting you instantly spawn at any available spawn tube after your timer has finished counting down would be a bit of a departure from the first game, but I don't think it would be too much of a problem. It would probably help encourage players to wait five or ten seconds extra for a medic if they knew that the moment they picked a spawn point, their waiting was over.

Having to click on a spawn point before the respawn timer started was a bad mechanic in PS1. It always bothered me. It meant that if you weren't certain that you were going to get resurrected, you were actually making it take LONGER to respawn by waiting around.

If you could spend your entire respawn timer waiting around to get resurrected, only deciding if you should wait longer or just respawn at the very end, you would instantly increase the number of targets for a medic to bring back.

Add to that the other ideas about letting dead players know how many medics were nearby and how close they were and the problem should be solved. Anyone too stupid to know when to tap out and when to wait for a medic would be a lost cause, and even THEY would probably get resurrected a lot of the time if the medic got to them before the respawn timer was up.
Ideas like this are EXACTLY the type of thing that SOE can do to raise the pacing of the game drastically without worrying about making weapon lethality too high. I approve. I probably waited around numerous times for a medic (20-40 seconds probably) to come resurrect me, then I tapped and had another 25 seconds tacked on to respawning. Good solution. Now I just have 25 seconds, period.

Okay, so let's pass United NaNations resolution number one: Rez after tap.

Perhaps we should start a thread containing such resolutions; we could see if Sony responded as eagerly to them as the United Nations.

I always wondered why it would be so hard to make these kinds of changes to respawning in the first Planetside, but at least with the fact that PS2 is still in development, there is no excuse for the devs not to get it right. As long as we make sure they know of the problem.

For all we know, the developers may have already thought of this, but let's not assume that's the case.

i believe they said a couple of times that the game's code was "hard coded" or something and pretty much stopped them from being able to do a LOT of stuff apparently.

but anyways...how about the ability to grab a fallen soldier and drag him/her to cover and then rez them? or should everyone be able to grab and pull them to cover? be pretty cool and useful

I thinks thats a great idea, just not sure how hard it would be to implement at this point if it already hasn't been done.

Give medics with helmets a LARGE WHITE CROSS with other coloring around the cross that is different from standard helmets. (reverse primary and secondary coloring for the faction, for example)

Medics without helmets should be able to don baseball caps (like the ones the military uses) that have the white cross and medic helmet coloring.
