I heard they recalled a lot of FX's because they weren't up to par and the high end one's fan was loud...that's probably just a rumor though.

I read a reveiw comparing the FX to the 9700 Pro, I forget where though. Those two cards are fricking neck and neck. It's nearly impossible to tell the difference. The only problem with the FX is that it' LOUD. I would go with the 9700 Pro, assuming it costs less.

Well no it doesn't suck but it sure didn't live up the hype. It beats the radeon 9700 but not by any huge margin like most nvidia fans were hoping for. As far as the fan thing goes... I sure hope they did something. That fan drowns out my vacuum cleaner.

Actually I just looked around a little and found another rumor that the next iteration of the FX will be liquid cooled...that seems horrendously implausible to me though.

I actually think it's a better idea than what they have right now. I would imagine that it would take up an ass load of room in your case though. You would reach cooler temps and it would produce less noise. Don't know all of the drawbacks though.

I was always taught that electronics didn't like liquid...but hey, my strobe light didn't work when it was dry, so I don't think that class taught me right.

hmm... *throws bucket of water on computer* Hey, it's making it hotter! AH, FIRE!!
Really though, they are making WAY too many variatons of the same card. I can understand 3 versions, those being best, good, affordabe, but with so many different manufacturers, it ges way too complicated. Gainward, BFG, Sapphire, Hercules... AAAHHHHHH, WHICH IS WHICH?!?!?! |

Here's a link to a diagram of a liquid cooled server case, for those that are interested.
http://www.xtwerkz.com/swfitech_quiet_power.htm The main drawback to liquid cooling is it's really expensive. The case in the above link is $480.00 |
