robocpf1 stated it best I think.
I'm sure (as much as I would rather they don't) SOE will fire up Official Forums at some point. I've always hated official forums for any game they are always cesspools and over-moderated.. but alas it is what it is. I doubt we would ever become official (Minecraft sort of does this with a fan site) because there is just to much red tape involved. Honestly Coreldan, you are better off just not reading them aside from a dev tracker, which is my only use of any game's official forums.. |

IMO, PSU is the place for vets to talk about the game. Vets know a lot more how the game should operate based on past experience with the first game. Official PS2 forums would be for the masses to discuss things about the game. Us here a PSU should discuss in-detail stuff here on PSU and go to the official PS2 forums to help the masses understand where we are coming from.

Well, on APB forums I was the one to moderate American players find it overmoderated while European players find it fine. It was also easy to tell the huge cultural difference back with the original owner of APB who had seperated NA and EU forums. NA forums were like a zoo in comparison. I don't wanna generalize, but that's how it really was
I also really like helping new players and even more seasoned. Very few can match my level of knowledge about APB and it's mechanics, which is pretty much why I have that many posts to begin with there. I never post "+1" or "lol" or basically anything that doesnt actually have some content in it. I suppose I will try to chill around at both. I really like the community here, but I'm more of the "official forum" guy But perhaps like Crator said, PSU is probably the "Elitist Jerks" website of Planetside in comparison to WoW. Some small theorycrafting happens on WoW official forums too, but most of it comes from the outside. That said, games like Planetside rarely have the amount of theorycraft of a stat-based MMORPG

Official forums do have very limited uses for a lot of things. Like Hamma said, tracking the devs is one part. Also, like I previously said, I think they will be good for beta feedback. Not that PSU won't be good for beta feedback as well, just that an official forum is nice to have in addition for that kind of thing. As a community center though, official forums tend to be pretty bad. That's not always the case, but I'd prefer coming to somewhere like here for that sort of thing. |

Totally agree with that statement. I didn't mean to insinuate that only seasoned vets of the game should come to these forums. I meant it more like SOE official forums would be the preliminary place to go to get familiar with the game and overall community and PSU to get to the meat and bones of the community. Think of the SOE official forums as a training camp for PSU perhaps... That's how I see it...

i don´t see a problem when soe starts the official forums, as long as the devs don´t forget about psu!
the official forum just HAS TO BE MODERATED and censored. and every game needs such a forum. but psu is such an institution by now, that the vets will never leave for a moderated official forum. please devs, keep coming here and answer our questions as you do now and everything will be great! we are not official so we need no censorship. and it has prooved to work over 9 or 10 years now. will it be possible to put in a ps2 devtracker here, that links to the official forums dev posts, so that news will end up here as well, without the need of manual work for our news gatherers? or would there be copyright issues with this? |
