I support the idea of such an area. It is a big shame that the "Epic carpet bombing of a funeral" is one of the most viewed Planetside video on YT. And no, I won't link it.
I remember watching Bigone's memorial video on YT when I was completely new to the game. That was the first time I felt this community is unique. Zenben said PS is meant to be a neverending all-out war so why stopping? I don't agree with this; I think that stopping the neverendig war is the least we can offer to the memory of a friend, a buddy, a fellow PS player. It is the least, and what else could we do? |

Thanks for the feedback. I think there should be a place to pause the eternal war and take a second or two to reflect. Perhaps in addition to three equal sectors there can be a circle in the middle where all three empires can enter. Again, weapons can fire but not damage.
At the borders between the sectors, bullets nor sound can pass through. You can send tells back and forth but I don't want a cacophony. The key is to make it a place that is worth the money keeping it running. I see it as a good rally point for inter-outfit and inter-empire activities, and a good place to film machinima. A place where you can line up troops without a fury screaming into your ranks. |

a place for noncombat ceremonys would be nice.
and for those who actually want their ceremonys to be ruined, remember, that every ceremony has it´s end. and when the end has come, a massive browl would break out anyway! maybe make this place so, that you can enter it from your footholds, but there is only one exit that leads directly to a battlezone, so a massive battle is almost guaranteed after any ceremony. |

A cool idea but probably not practical. Sadly there will always be failures in video games that will rain on the parades (or funerals) of those trying to have a ceremony. I doubt that it's something that happens enough though to have a ceremonial type area.

We had warpgates in Planetside 1 which effectively did something similar so the basics of the mechanics are there. These ceremonies were done a number of times, whether it was a memorial or a server farewell before a merge, so we know the demand is there for such a place. But I think most importantly, it would be extremely cool for the lore. The empires of set up a location where they can discuss peace treaties, but it falls silent since peace is a dream long since gone and is therefore used for other events. I imagine it much like the border gates between North and South Korea, or even better yet the Armistice Station from the opening of the Battlestar Galactica beginning miniseries. |

For the purposes of the ceremony we need a zone, where cross-empire local chat is allowed. So we don't need to "forward" the messages with tells to a buddy in the other empire so he can broadcast it to his teammates.
The SOE team has a 3 years vision of the game, but nothing is carved in stone, so they can add it later too if the playerbase really demands. |

Like you even said, the space was already used before, but we had to essentially repurpose a warpgate. I think it would be pretty cool to have a specially designed building or bunker. Call it an Armistice Station, or an Embassy. It doesn't need to be a seperate zone like a Sanctuary. |

Agreed, Raymac, I don't think this is too crazy of a thing to build. However, I think access to it should be similar to the VR training in sanc. Here is the reason, I don't want people ducking into this building like immortals in Highlander diving into churches for sanctuary. I've always gotten a little tired of warpgate chicken.

I second this. An option might be to make a Shieldgate; similar in design to a Warpgate but a piece of Vanu technology that they might consider "sacred". In it you couldn't take vehicles/aircraft or, alternatively you could, but have a weapon cooldown once you exited it whether on foot or not... this meant weapons couldn't be fired for a certain amount of time and players would be vulnerable to attack, unless they stayed inside the shield bubble or hitched a ride in an already-active vehicle/aircraft not bound to the restrictions the player was. You also couldn't leave except the way you came (no warpgate beacon), but you could log out and your playermodel would re-materialise there when you returned, instead of an allied outpost.
Of course this meant your ride would deconstruct after a long time, but a tower nearby would allow for transition to elsewhere. An advantage of this structure, however, could be it would still charge an ANT for ferrying energy to a base's power generators. Last edited by Hyncharas; 2011-12-23 at 10:02 AM. |
