With XP you need to reregister the software to the new computer. Call up MS support. When you install XP you need to register. When you do so, it takes a snapshot of your system. IF you reinstall your own software on another machine, MS will know if you don't register in so many days. Also, XP will not work after so many days of no registration. I think it's like 60 times or so.

MS Office XP is the same way.

I know, kinda shitty. But they need their money.

Hunter:

I would pay 400 for WinXP. I like the remote connectivity feature. I think it's worth it.

That is funny, because the Goverment bitched at microsoft for putting too much "phone home" shit in it. Which is NOT good when you have XP running on NSA, Pentagon, or CIA computers.

Last I heard MS was going to open the source code to them.

You don't have to do it the first time you load it. It's only if you reinstall it on a different machine (or if you change main pieces of hardware, like your board).

Yeah, I heard that too. Something about agencies starting to use Linux so that they could edit the source to write their own stuff, so MS caved and is talking about letting them have some source code to keep their business.
