Re: Drawn knife with OSK kill animation?

I don't think there should be any animation or QTE.

HOWEVER I think CQC cloakers should have the ability to kill with one shot of their knife and not just in the back of a person. Its only fair because the sniper cloaker gets a OSOK ability from the safety of a longer range then most guns can hit. As such the CQC style cloaker should be rewarded with a OSOK just for having the tactics and planing needed to get close enough for his knife to hit the enemy.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with either of those combat systems. Could you elaborate a bit and/or provide a link or two to somewhere that has a good example/explanation of them? I watched a few M&B vids but it gave little indication of the control scheme.

I would argue that it's just as unfair for a cloaker to have OSOK as it is for a sniper to have it. IMO no infantry class should have any sort of OSOK ability outside of something like an OS (and even then I'm not so sure).

OSOK knifing ability for a cloaker would end up giving even a minimally skilled cloaker the ability to farm newbies and the clueless while at the same time frustrating them because they got instagibbed by an opponent they couldn't even see.

I shudder to think what such an ability would be like in the hands of a cloaker like MightyMouser (well, *I* wouldn't shudder since Mouser's VS, but I'd pity any TR/NC he set his sights on).

It's a recipe for incredibly abusable and frustrating gameplay considering the scale and persistent nature of PS2 when an attack can literally come from anywhere, anytime.

I wasn't saying that it was fair for the sniper to have the ability. However it does, we know that as a fact as its been conformed. There for I was stating that it would only be fair that the CQC cloaker gets a OSOK knife. (and no, you will not be allowed both the knife and the sniper gun.)

Its honestly the same with the Sniper. Just once the sniper is good he will farm everyone who steps outside to the point most people will refuse to leave the safety of base rooms without a way to port outside/drive out of the building in a vehicle.

At least the CQC cloaker is countered with a little map awareness. then it takes tactical, planing, and positioning making skills for him to kill his target/targets.

Ah, nostalgia. Remember scratched record skip? Even THAT was more pleasant than CD wompwompwompwompwompwompwompwompwompwomp when a CD "skips".

My dad had records so old they were RESIN, not vinyl. Fragile suckers. Vinyl ones seemed to take a feat of Superman to break, they would bend so far.

The jist of it is that you attack and parry in a given direction and have some control over the speed and power of your swing. It's involved enough that it would be over complex for Planetside, but I'd sooner have it or the QTE contest than I would Halo style one button "assassinations".

Have OSOK sniper shots actually been confirmed? I know Higby said with their damage multiplier system they could make sniper headshots OSOK "for example" if they wanted to. I don't recall reading anywhere that they will for sure, tho.

I do share your concerns about snipers, tho.

Hmm, sounds interesting, but yeah, I'm not sure it'd see much use beyond cloaker stabby-stabby to justify its inclusion.
