It will be way too hard to do in planetside....I doubt they can get 1000 players to agree.
I will say this tho...their is gonna be people who think K/D ratio is the most important thing...I hope Planetside creates some sort of system that is considered more important than KDR. |

Yes K/D says something about survivability, but it's still just a matter of luck. But it doesn't mean jack if you have a 10/1 ratio and your empire is shoved all the way back to your sanctuary now does it? On the other hand, unless they use a very complicated version of the old merit system, there probably won't be a better system. |

I don't think you understood what I was saying. I am saying that the demand for the game will be so great that even though everyone doesn't play at once, there will be more than 18,000 at any given time, and people won't be able to play. Therefore, more servers. |

Solo players usually worry about k/d because it's really the only thing they can do. To get anything done in a game like Planetside you need an outfit that is organized and plans attacks. There you will see people not caring much about k/d.
Much like regular FPS games. Pub servers often consist of k/d stat lovers because it's usually what gets things done. Absolutely no one is organized on them, and no one trusts each other to get anything done on a pub. However in actual clan vs. clan matches it's a different attitude. Find an outfit, clan, team whatever and organize. Besides Planetside is not a round based game like BF or COD. Every aspect of play contributes to the on going war for the empire. I suspect that they will have A server dedicated to 3 continents, but I don't think that is the same as the server you log into. Think of it as shards rather then servers. There will be several shards for each cluster, each shard will be dedicated to 3 continents, and your character can travel anywhere within the cluster you logged into. Shadowrune did this way back when it actually existed, I think. Pretty sure many newer MMOs are doing this now too, SWTOR included. |

That said, while Planetside needs population density, but it's gonna harm itself if there are 6000 people waiting in the queues to log in. It's just about always better to have one server too many at start and merge later than the other way around. The three continents are "the whole world" at launch. Sure, more will be added later, but they've said we start off with just three. That said, they are like quite huge in size and every piece of land is being fought over, not just bases like in PS2.

i dont really get adding more continents in after launch, dispersing the population? that was one fo the faults of core combat, unless they do it with server merges at the same time so all those contents are filled, i dont see it as been a good move.

However, having just 3 continents "forever" will probably also hurt the game. I guess we could hope that Planetside 2 will be one of those games that actually gain players over years instead of losing, something which AFAIK only two MMOs have ever done, WoW and EVE.

When I started PS there were usually only 3 (maybe 4) fights (or so going on). A fully pop-locked fight, a medium fight and a small fight. The good thing about this was it gave you options on which fight looks the most fun to join. There was also the option to take your platoon to open a new continent and new fight, gain territory etc etc etc. Back to the OP ... seriously, I am not worried. PS2 will be both a stats game and a territory game. People will forgo the kills to gain resources. It happened in PS1 and it will in PS2. |

Well, technically I can think of some hairbrained ideas but none that I can flesh out to be worth posting. |
