E3 - They announce June 15th 2012 as the start of beta with limited invites going out. August - Closed Beta is in full swing with all their closed beta invites out. October - Open Stress Test November - Open Beta starts and leads into Release. December might be the release as well, but keep in mind that if they launch without some content it can easily be added later to show continued development.

The game is playable now - we've all seen the devs playing it, so technically, beta can probably start whenever they feel like it.
Who says you have to have final art assets in the game to allow people to test other parts of it? Who says you have to have MAX units at all? or any other weapon/vehicle/options that will appear in the final game? I mention World of Tanks in a few threads because its a fairly good comparison as a quality F2P title. Its "out" and I've been playing it for a year - but even now, they're still changing tech trees, adding new maps, features and items, balancing tanks, etc. Even their version number hasn't reached "1" yet! As excited as I am to play it - it will be ready when its ready, but I'm just pointing out that its feasible that beta could still either be a short 'prelude' to a full release (more to make sure the servers are up to speed than anything else), and thus not be ready for a while, or it could be a long session of fixes, balances, additions and iterations (to get the community to help with actually shaping the final game) and thus starting very soon, with the full game not out for another 6 months or a year. |

I'm not saying things can't change or be added once the beta begins, but I'd at least like to see all the classes, vehicles, and weapons in good working order. |

What the devs said at the time was that they only had the TR max implemented and were re-skinning that to look like VS and NC max for test purposes. We didn't see one in the vid, although The Higgs did hover over the Max button to play with our minds when he was showing us the respawn screen!
