They all seem to be getting in at 5am and working 6days or so at the moment, to me i appears they are crunching for E3. But the maxes and lightning are the only player stuff we haven't seen lots of. Bases i think are coming along.

I reckon 3/4months to beta.

I get this impression too, and I to some extent loathe this feeling as much as I believe in its positive impact on the overall quality of the game.

Edit: Though in an attempt to stay on topic(lol). The MAX WIP looks great, I can't wait to try all of them out in Beta.

I still stick to my prediction:

E3 - They announce June 15th 2012 as the start of beta with limited invites going out.
August - Closed Beta is in full swing with all their closed beta invites out.
October - Open Stress Test
November - Open Beta starts and leads into Release.

December might be the release as well, but keep in mind that if they launch without some content it can easily be added later to show continued development.

I agree with this, if not June 15, sooner. Perhaps they will start beta before (or when) E3 starts, and have players jump in while there to try it out before open beta.

The game is playable now - we've all seen the devs playing it, so technically, beta can probably start whenever they feel like it.

Who says you have to have final art assets in the game to allow people to test other parts of it? Who says you have to have MAX units at all? or any other weapon/vehicle/options that will appear in the final game?

I mention World of Tanks in a few threads because its a fairly good comparison as a quality F2P title. Its "out" and I've been playing it for a year - but even now, they're still changing tech trees, adding new maps, features and items, balancing tanks, etc. Even their version number hasn't reached "1" yet!

As excited as I am to play it - it will be ready when its ready, but I'm just pointing out that its feasible that beta could still either be a short 'prelude' to a full release (more to make sure the servers are up to speed than anything else), and thus not be ready for a while, or it could be a long session of fixes, balances, additions and iterations (to get the community to help with actually shaping the final game) and thus starting very soon, with the full game not out for another 6 months or a year.

The devs said the same here as well. Not having models ready is not what is postponing the beta. Placeholders are easy to have and common in most betas anyways.

But in our case, since the devs know how picky we are, they will want to get it as polished as possible to prevent the slew of nit-picky reports on stuff they obviously have not finished and risk a mass ragequit.

I think we are shooting ourselves in the foot... >.<

It's definitely playable, but I think the focus needs to be on overall balance, once the major components have been integrated. Planetside strikes a remarkable resemblance to Starcraft in this manner; you add one single unit or weapon and gameplay, tactics, and battles can shift significantly.

I'm not saying things can't change or be added once the beta begins, but I'd at least like to see all the classes, vehicles, and weapons in good working order.

This. Right now there really isn't much solid concrete information we know about in terms of Planetside 2. MAX units still don't seem playable yet, and I think they are trying to get as many familiar Planetside 1 things in before we get a hold of the beta. Balancing is going to be the major focus, and really you have to have all your pieces on the board to see how the each affect one another.

The GDC vid had a max in it......... wasn't skinned right but it was there.

I don't remember seeing one, but if you could point it on that would be pretty cool. I tend to miss details in videos since I became a father lol.

What the devs said at the time was that they only had the TR max implemented and were re-skinning that to look like VS and NC max for test purposes. We didn't see one in the vid, although The Higgs did hover over the Max button to play with our minds when he was showing us the respawn screen!
