Re: Wall Turrets

I love the idea of having spot lights as a spec for engineers, with or without turrets.

A spotlight upgrade would be great.

Spot lights on turrets would be a great idea. Engineers I assume will be able to upgrade the turrets. I would also like to see flares that get shot up into the night sky to light up area's outside the base like in war movies. Has anything been mentioned about flares?

Oh come on man, use that something between your ears. First of all you'd have to find a valid target providing you aren't blasted away within first dozen of seconds.... guys will be able simply to lay in wait and the moment they see light go on they'll barrage you with heavy fire. Also keeping a spot light on the aircraft?! Really? Tanks would also be able to hide easily when you spot them since there will be plenty of structures and on top of that they'll know they are being targeted and that they need to go away... Bad idea overall.

What would be good is that actual shot fired from turrets emit light upon contact (bright explosions) so they would reveal the enemy you are firing at but you would remain concealed (turret status unknown) until your first shots were fired.

I like the spotlight idea, but I doubt it's effectiveness against the Terran.

If it would be anything like BF3 it'll make you hit ALT+F4 after 5 minutes of playing. It is a valid tactic but one that drains the fun out of the game for the receiving end. It's the equivalent of having your opponent turn off your monitor. It feels really cheap, skill-less and is rage inducing.

Do not want.. Again.

For the people saying the spot light would give away your position and let the enemy unload on you:

Didn't se wee the turrets firing have quite a bit of tracers in the night during the E3 footage?
Tracers or spot-light it all still points out where you are.

Exactly, besides I'd rather have fire drawn towards a big ass turret than to any squishies on the wall.

Exactly. Base turrets aren't exactly meant to be subtle. They're meant to suppress the enemy or draw most of their fire, in order to help the squads on the ground to defend against less attackers, or to make a counter attack.

They could also be useful for lighthing up enemy aircraft so they light up and jump to the attention of your own fighters, and easier spotting for the turret itself to shoot it down.

Missile clusters? A different game dynamic and it would look pretty awesome as visual noise.

It's completely different, tracers are only seen after you fire and last only when you fire, spotlights on the other hand will be visible the moment you man the turret until you leave it. It is not revealing the position that is the "breaker" but the fact that spotlights will reveal turret status even prior to firing it, they'll alert the target that the turret is aiming at it and finally they'll make it easier for other enemies to aim at the turret all the time.

Honestly I don't care if this would be a cert and someone would be unintelligent enough to use it, however I would hate this to be a default feature for turrets.
