Get a higher end CPU and compromise on GPU. Get both ideally but for the cost sensitive person, CPU > GPU.

No doubt, got a Phenom 970 pushing my 680. Need to get some sandy/ivy

Maybe a dumb question, but this driver only relates to "SLI" ... so if your not using SLI then you won't get a performance increase for planetside 2 right?.

I'm crossing my fingers for an announcement this week, along with an initial download for the first wave of testers, followed by the commencement of (the first scheduled window of?) beta on the 22nd or 29th.

In any event, if people are playing beta by the first week in July, it'll be an epic Independence Day.

Correct. SLI profiles help the drivers sort out how to most efficiently divide work between the GPUs to maximize performance for multi-GPU solutions.

That said, the drivers themselves frequently offer performance improvements. Typically, though, it's fine to run with the latest WHQL (Windows hardware quality... something -- basically, drivers that were submitted to Microsoft for stability testing and earned a stamp of approval; with graphics drivers and other drivers that see frequent updates, it's rarely economical to submit every build to be tested) drivers *unless* you're experiencing problems or lower performance than you'd expect. Then go looking at beta drivers newer than your WHQL ones for notes specifically referencing your problem or the game in question. If that doesn't solve the bugs you're experiencing, check the support forums for your game; they may recommend an *older* set of drivers, usually because some driver update broke something in their own game and they're still working on fixing the compatibility.

Considering how good the game looks, I'm not surprised they are using it to market their cards. Wonder if we'll see a Planetside 2 edition 670 floating around before launch?

I have the same chip, and I think we'll be well ahead of the curve. The 2600k is a beast of a processor.
