But why can you only choose a two year or four year degree? Here in the UK "college" (University) degrees are mostly for three years.

OP is probably from the US where it goes 2 years(Associates), 4 years(Bachelors), 6 years(Masters), 8 years (Doctorate).

Ah, I see. If it'd given those extra details I would have chosen 4 years rather than 2, as I got a BSc. Never mind!
