Smed said the game was more CPU heavy than GPU heavy, sounds good to me!

My card crapped out on me last week here's hoping I get a new one in time. I'm using my families old Radeon HD 4650. I'll be lucky if I can run the game on min settings.

My nVidia Riva TNT2 handles Half Life at 1024x768 and 30fps... why can't it run this game on ultra?

Offhand, I'd say because it can only cram 4 or 5 textures into local memory.

He probably means that you need quad-sli'd 670s to run it on ultra currently (the capability of which will, with time, be enabled by one card, eventually).

The latest Beta drivers from nVidia have an SLI profile for PS2 This bodes well for my dual 465s.

Yeah, I'm a bit worried about that. I have an ASUS G53SX DH71 (The best G53), and while with a GTX 560m 2g DDR5 I'm not worried about graphics (BF3 runs fine on ultra with a couple tiny consessions), I am worried about my processor. Mobile processors don't typically handle CPU intensive things wonderfully, especially MMO-type content. However I run TERA super cranked and only have to slow it down a bit during Nexus events when the player count is in the 100's rendered on top of eachother all on one screen.

Player count has always been a CPU issue (specifically with mmo's), having little to do with GPU, which is concerned with rendering. Your CPU has to know something's there, on screen or not, and process the information. He referred to his GPU. Battlefield's engine will be much more graphically intensive than PS2 with things like frosbite, lighting and the much more detailed textures. PS2, as smedley said, will be CPU intensive. Two completely different beasts from a tech standpoint.

While I'm sure the game will be graphically intensive and utilize high-end GPU's, the real issue for a lot of people will be processor speed.

Indeed, I can run very processor intensive games on high or ultra such as Shogun II and Anno 2071 with my Intel i5 2410 dual core, so hopefully I'll be fine. I don't really play too many MMO's anymore, but it ran SWTOR fine before I realized how terribad that game was, even with 200+ people on screen. Hopefully that's an indicator!

The Droid 15 and iPhone 69Z will be able to run it on Ultra Mega Super Duper Smedlonius Maximus Settings.

Why would you need frecking Quad 670's? Waste of money BIG TIME. It all depends on what your resoultion is. If your running 1920x1080 and you have quad 670's then that is a waste of money. Now running eyefinity with 4 monitors.....different story.

People really need to understand the difference in resolutions and the stress they put on the GPU before spouting off random info.

I don't totally agree with this. Smed already said a 8800 GT level card won't be fun playing with and that there is a graphic setting for unreleased GPUs (pointing out it will be intense). I do see this being a stress on GPUs not only CPUs.

Re: Ultra settings

It's good that they are partially future proofing the game by adding some ultra high settings, just so long as the lower settings levels look good enough that people don't get pissed that their hardware can't run the game acceptably like when Crysis came out.

Hopefully Forgelight is robust enough that they can also modify the engine and improve Planetside 2 over time to further help keep the graphics relevant. A few minor graphics improvements every several months, along with a minor graphics overhaul every several years should be enough to keep PS2 competitive graphically for a good 5 years, even if it's no longer cutting edge after the first couple.
