I wouldn't have expected the RIAA to sue a college student for 97.8 billion dollars either, but they are. Point being companies generally don't like to come down on crap like this, unless they want to make a point. Now usually it's not worth it to make the point, but if they decide to make an example out of you...well...you're screwed

Well, I got in contact with a SOE rep and asked them about selling/giving up a beta tester account. BOTH are totally illegal, for one you are violating the NDA and second the account would not work when the machine is cross referenced against the dxdiag.

I don't know how much I believe the second one, but I think the first one is enough for me not to even think about selling or giving up my account anymore. If I can't use my account for beta testing, then no one will.

But this does bring up another point. What is the point of playing a game or building a characeter if you are just going to sell the sob off on ebay. So for all those people out there who plan on getting a high user account and then sell it off. Shame on you....

If someone wants to invest hours upon hours of his/her time making a BR20 CR5 character, why shouldn't they be able to do what they want with it? Furthermore, the majority of people that would ever sell a game account probablly never planned that from the start. But it may happen that they have to quit the game for whatever reason, and why not make some money off it?

Because those pixels dont belong to you, they belong to the game company/developer.

Sounds petty, but its grounds to have legal action taken against you.

You know those lengthly terms and conditions you click throught real quick when installing a game? They're called "clickware" agreements, and they're usually structured in the form of a license agreement, not a transfer of property. Sony keeps it intellectual property rights - including the characters you "lease" - without ever transferring them to you. So that's why you can't assign your characters to someone else, because they're not yours.

ERm, instead of thinking that " Oh, sony will never catch me!" or "It'll just be a small ban" Think straight, when you signed up for beta you read (hopfully) and signed a legal document! Sure it may not seem like much, but sony may have a bad day or go laywer happy and you'll find court summons in your mail box in no time. Like the saying goes, better safe then sorry

Are you dumb from birth or just went that way? Nobody cares that it is illegal. Smoking dope is illegal but who gives a fuck. Speeding is illegal but who gives a fuck. Just because some nasty prick in a sharp suit is going to file a lawsuit don't mean jackshit to many people.

OMFG I just looked a www.playerauctions.com and someone is selling a level 65 EQ character for 1,000 USD!!!!!
