Whenever someone talks about an 'arcade' flight model I always think about those side-scrolling shooter games where you're one plane/spaceship with infinite ammo going against hordes of evil planes/spaceships and bosses that are physically impossible to win against.
Anyways, tribes2-like is A. OK for me. I personally preferred it over a 'realistic' model. But, can't put the nose down more than 45 degrees!? Holy crap, tell me you're exaggerating!

Oh come on guys, it's not *that* bad, is it?
This game is designed to be played with thousands of people. Generally speaking, 'the masses' cant handle study sims, so it has to be something that's easy to control. Now, I sure wouldnt complain if they made it a bit more complex, added greater freedom, etc, but this is an action game after all. In other news, I always get shot down by tanks in DC

Increasing the complexity of the flight model would make it more of a specialization and would also greatly increase the fun factor for those who decide to become pilots. Nobody's gonna be a dedicated pilot with an uber easy system. It will get progressively mundane.

I'd have to disagree with you about no dedicated pilots. Even my limited time in the beta has shown air support to be invaluable.
Be it a mosquito hunting for an enemy AMS or a pair of Reavers intercepting armor and infantry, they can *really* turn the tide of a battle. Though that said, more complex controls would definately give a greater feel of accomplishment to the hardcore flyboys

Games like this improve over time. Perhaps they went with a lesser flight model instead of getting bogged down with making a better one for the sake of the game. Once the game is live and running well, they may go back and make it better. Of course, pilots will have to go through and relearn if the devs do that but in the end, it will be better for the game.

Just so long as the vehicles are more fvsking RESPONSIVE than the T2 vehicles. I even got used to the T2 flight model - it was simply the fact that even the Scout Flyer handled like it had an elephant attached to the underside that I couldn't get used to.
