Forced but with alternate camera angles like the driver would have, e.g. Rear, maybe downward looking so you don't land on anyone.

I can't link this to a specific source, but I'm pretty sure freelook in the cockpit is included. And since TrackIR just needs there to be a freelook function that should work as well. Looking forward to using it myself.

TrackIR explained, for those of you who aren't aware of it:

Dang; that is awesome...makes me want to get one, though if a game's design isn't done with one of those in mind, it would severely limit it's usefulness...Were the devs actually allowing for that kind of free-look inside the cockpit?

Ding ding ding! We have a communist! :P

Everyone has the ability to do it, or no one does.

Not trying to be a jerk; but there's a HUGE difference between these two.

I definitely think thy should be forced, but for manuvering there should be a 3rd person option like PS1

As much as I like the old hud-only option from PS1, it gave you an unrealistically clear picture of the battlefield, and hiding what's directly beneath you makes it harder to hit ground targets, I would think.

Edit:

And good god that would be awesome, i'd imagine if it supports freelook it'd be quite easy to integrate!!

The real question is "is freelook available?" If so, all of the head trackers and other ancillaries can work with it without any effort on the PS2 team's part. It would be a nice bonus for air combat nerds.

You could buy the track IR, or you could buy a 10$ joystick with a hat switch and accomplish the exact same thing. I love the way the devs have made there PS2 jets and I am dieing a little every day until beta opens up.

That was my prior approach. Tracking is quite the order-of-magnitude improvement. I'd say it also lets you have those four inputs back, but honestly, there probably aren't that many relevant keystrokes.

Should not be forced in my opinion, there should also be mouse look and more than one 3rd person camera angle as well. It might not be realistic but that would greatly improve situation awareness for dog-fighting, and it would be very useful for those who want to make videos.

Get a buddy to record your dogfighting escapades. Otherwise I am very content on how flight has been done by the dev team.

The main point I wanted to make was that with more camera angles you get increased situational awareness, in 2142 you could generally tell the good pilots from the bad based on whether or not they could use their camera angles to acquire and track multiple targets. In BF3 having only one camera angle is one of the many things I hate about that game.

Then maybe I should change my argument to, ALL vehicles should have more than one camera angle. :P
