Oooh I'm excited to get a crack at this game, unfortunately Planetside's release was too before my time to really get into (was 10 or 11 when it came out, had no idea about it) but I can remember going on on a friend's account.
Can't recall a thing about how it felt, but I've had a passion for somewhat "serious" games like ARMA and Opflash (which my original xbox almost exclusively played ) that are about teamwork and large-scale coordination, so I'm amped for this release. As a side note, the correlation between interest in "serious" games and enrollment in the armed forces is something I find interesting, I've met a ton of awesome people in the Army, etc. through ARMA |

Regular Army is like that too, sort of. At least at certain ranks (I think starting at SSG). Each MOS has a specific number of slots for certain ranks. If those slots are all full, you have to wait. I couldn't get promoted to Master Sergeant because there weren't any slots and nobody was retiring any time soon so I tried to reclass, that was a no-go, too.

But like I said before I would like to think I earned my rank, being one of the few to max the pt test let alone pass, plus being a team leader for a year and an acting squad leader for 6 months, and being one of the few people to go to a military school(even if it was just Javelin School lol)

A by the book Army infantry platoon should have 1 e7 4 e6's and 8 e5's give or take an e-7 for weapons squad. Whilst a by the book Marine Platoon only has 1 e-6 and 3 e-5's give or take an e-7 for a weapons platoon. that right there should show you why it's a lot easier to reach the an NCO rank in the Army as opposed to the Marines. Marines naturally pride themselves on having much more difficult promotion process, that doesn't really take away from the army's however, having 5x as many people requires 5x as many NCO's lol. ADDITION: Another thing I forgot is the Army has all but gotten rid of the rank of Corporal, there extremely rare and usually considered the worst rank in the Army. In a sense the Marines Corporal is the Army's Sergeant in terms work and experience, we just get paid more .

i have seen a few people say (in this thread even) that PS2 will be anywhere from 1k vs 1k vs 1k to 3k vs 3k vs 3k
has there been any word at all on the size of the battles? somehow i cant see even 1k vs 1k vs 1k working too well (server wise) my guess is 300-500 per side (similar to ps1) which is still plenty imo |

No official word on numbers buddy, but the Higs did mention it was massive battles along the lines of PS1 . I think i recall him mentioning that it would be bigger size battles then ps1 but i might be wrong...
Personally even the scale of numbers from PS1 was insane (insane being a good thing )
