Sorry, but IMO civilian juries convict on sentiment, not on ratio. I don't consider a jury to be anything but an arbitrary set of inexperienced judges who have to go on what either counsellor says.
And uhm, you going all arrogant again? We have our own checks and double checks to prevent arbitrary convictions. Much the same but with a less media influenced and emotionally unstable crowd as jury. Last edited by Figment; 2012-04-13 at 10:57 AM. |

There is a great deal of research that shows that civilian juries can and often are swayed not by the rigors of law and evidence but rather on flawed human emotions. I'm damned if I can think of a better way of doing things, though.

Would you rather an innocent or guilty man walks on lack of evidence, than an innocent or guilty man is convicted based on emotions?
To me the emotional judgment seems more as a quenching of the need for justice from the public, rather than fair trial. If someone is convicted by a crowd, representing the community, then the community has had its will done, right? Ironically, Malorn has been continuously argueing in this thread that no fair trial is possible anymore due to the exposure of the public to the media and them having become biased. So if the crowd finds Zimmerman guilty, whether or not it was self-defense, justice be done, right? |

So what's wrong with the flag of the confederacy? I guess it stands for racism and inbreeding in your eyes huh? That flag is about pride. Pride in your heritage, pride in being who you are. Something I don't expect a Yankee to understand...much less a foreigner. And before you start spouting off about black people... I grew up in Tennessee and Mississippi...and we had a vote in Mississippi when I was 18 years old on whether or not to keep the confederate flag as part of the Mississippi state flag. And a shitload of black folks from the north came down screaming that the confederate flag was all about racism and rednecks and keeping the black man down! Guess what? A shitload of BLACK PEOPLE from Mississippi told them to shut the fuck up, it's not about race...it's about Southern pride. As I said...having pride in where you come from and who you are. Don't wave that fucking flag in disgrace again, until you know what the fuck you're talking about Figment. There are few things in life that really make me mad, and you just hit on one of them. |
