I think I figured it out, in the Civil War the north were Yankees, and the south were Confederates.. hmm the name must of stuck...

THe South scares the living shit out of me.

Not just because I've seen bumper stickers that said, "bin Laden wants you to vote for Kerry."

But because they still call the Civil War "the war of Northern aggression"

no offense, but I think southern accents make people sound like fucking dumbasses. I mean once I get to know a confederate, they seem normal, they just sound stupid initially.

Weeeelllll.... in a sense it was a war of northren agression... but I actually believe is was a war of equal aggression.. Both sides added to the building pressure... The north started it the building pressure and the south broke it...

My great, great, great ,great granfather, was the Souths ambassador to spain.. modernized the southren school system, was a colonol in the army, had a hole bunch a money and no slaves.. and the only reason he fought was because his state told him too...

Thats how it was... the south thought the north was opressing the rights of the states, turning it into another british empire... I feel some sympathy, but I know for the good of the USA, the north had to win...

You know how Tom Hanks talks? Thats the refined version of the southren accent... I'm sorry I never meant to be so defensive, I'm just tired of the way people look at me and say I am unitellegent(and of course I spell it wrong) just because of the way I talk. I love my history, and I am proud of it.. Not always are we right, but history is written by the victors... I also don't like the atitude of kust because your ancestors owned slaves, "You owe me something" I never owned a slave, that would be horrible, but why would I owe them something that my grandfathers did? I owe my parents, my girlfriend, my brothers, my teachers, my friends.. but I don't owe people that treat me like dirt....

Damn my rambling...

PS. I hate late posting... BTW I WAY 350 lbs - 180 lbs. and I'm still overweight!!!

My dad is a surgeon. He's had two patients so far that were morbidly obsese and needed some sort of scan- I forget the acronym. The one where you lay down in a tunnel-like thing and you are scanned. They simply couldn't fit- so they had to use the machine at MetroZoo in Miami to get their scan.

This has since been banned.

I thought Yankees was originally from some Dutch like 'John Cheese', which, when said in Dutch, sounds like 'Yankee', and there were many Dutch in New Enlgand, most heaivly concentrated in New York (I think). The term spread and by the time of the Civil War was used by the nefarious 'Rebs.

I could be mistaken.
