I would hope we might get a dev response on this...nothing concrete or what have you, but just to see that they look into these parts of the forums.
Somehow I doubt that though =/ They have plenty on their plate to be worrying about for simply getting the game running....though I would love to see this resurface in the beta proper where they might be more receptive to suggestions. |

Thing is, in my suggestion I list drop pods as capable of working with High Altitude drops and they would reach the round Very Fast. Higby stated the same thing with the Galaxy drop pod mod in the interview the same way I had. So there is a fair chance they took my idea. Could also be coincidence though. They probably don't respond to ideas in a forum like this because of a variety of reasons. It could give us an idea of something that might be in the game that they might decide to not use. It could create pressure on them with certain points, and other stuff. |

They're already doing this. The in-progress pic even showed up earlier in the thread. No, it isn't a turret. Yes, the poorly placed handles were the first thing people pointed out to T-Ray when he asked.

It was a concept back in late 2011. It has not popped it's head up at all. It also had a very awkward design and was probably an older PS:N concept. If it's not a turret then it really sticks out more from the current design style of PS2. You can tell how much of an older style it is from the poly count. It's blocky and doesn't seem at all like the high polygon count of the gauss rifle. It was made for an older engine. I bet back then, TRay was trying to see if anyone wanted them to revive that concept in PS2 since they jumped engines from PS:N. Well, this thread is one such suggestion for a style and way to revive it.

This. 100 times. Moreso than ANY other Dev team I've seen, the PS2 staff listens and cares about it's community. All of the companies say it but Higby and friends really mean it. It has been revealed multiple times that game elements have been added, removed, or altered because of feedback from this site. As said, they have plenty on their plate, so if they don't respond to all the threads don't get discouraged. They do pay attention, and it would not surprise me in the slightest if the added some form of this into the beta.

We should be discussing whether the Jackhammer should be replaced/modified by a cannon type weapon to better fit the game. |

To get back on topic:
I think the easiest solution would be to create the modifier for the jackhammer that gives it slug ammunition. A small certification or unlockable modifier would take a fraction of the time to implement and could make it in before release/beta. Later on down the road, when they are under less of a time constraint another weapon can be added. Perhaps they could introduce this weapon or something very similar alongside new empire specific weapons for each faction. The Terran Republic specialize in ROF and multi-barreled weapons so perhaps it will be a railgun or coilgun to give it a more New Conglomerate feel. I very much like the idea of the NC having HA bolt-action (feel) weapon. I like the work you've done and I hope SOE will draw from it. |

Secondly, the Jackhammer is probably going to have to be redesigned anyways for PS2. Why make slugs a secondary or a mod? Turn the Jackhammer into a Cannon and give it a Flak mod. Going from versatile to specialized is the way to go, rather than from specialized to more versatile. Besides, in PS1, the Jackhammer was the smallest HAgun. In PS2, it needs to be one of the bigger guns, so that NC takes the role of looking big, heavy, and powerful. It's like how the Vanguard has the biggest barrel. NC is all about looks bigger and tougher. And thanks for complimenting my work. It was fun, but now I'm sad I got nothing else to draw up. I gotta find some indy game company or something to draw for hehe. Last edited by Zekeen; 2012-06-03 at 03:38 PM. |

That's probably because it is the second drawing. I got a warm up with the first, and was able to salvage parts, correct errors, took a look into how it would be held, where ammo could be, where ammo could eject, alternate parts for certain features, ect. And since, as I said, I had already done the first design, the second one got a better makeover with better shadows and better NC paint job. If ya like it so much, maybe I'll finish coloring it all the way as NC might do.

on the second part- whichever is given priority is of of no concern to me. The jackhammer already has an identity as a shotgun so it would have to be that either primarily or secondarily through mods, or only as a shotgun. All in all, if they decide to turn the jackhammer into a cannon I'm all for it, but if it doesn't retain in some part the PS1 feel then it isn't the jackhammer |

The Jackhammer will have to start with a more balanced use to return, PS2 is all about balance, and if it isn't balanced it throws players off. So it'd make more sense for a longer ranged attack than close ranged powerhouse. So, just in way of game design, they almost HAVE to do something like this or else the high power short range will have everyone calling foul for reasons of being too inefficient or too powerful. Thus, a nerf war would begin again, and that didn't end well. If you keep the shot effect as a secondary type to the weapon, it may be easier to deal with and balance. Edit: Added a new full colored Jackhammer Cannon now Last edited by Zekeen; 2012-06-03 at 05:02 PM. |
