Eve online, WOW, SWG, EQ2, even planetside, they ALL did cost about 50, with one free month, and then subscription. F2P is not yet ruled out, for several reasons: 1. Remember Guild Wars? Box also costs cash, but the game is F2P 2. We dont know if this preorder stuff is official, or if Gamestop and Amazon just put it on before they even have details. Happens alot, just to get cash sooner rather than later. In case this is official: You may have noticed that there is only a Preoder for a PC version, no preoder for a PS3. |

That's a good point, Desoxy, and it's one that I had considered myself. I think that if the game is available for preorder, Sony HAD to have a hand in it, because Sony tells Gamestop how much to charge for it (in this case, $49.99). Gamestop wouldn't be able to just "make up" a price. So, it evidences that there MUST have been some communication between Sony and Gamestop in order for this to be listed for preorder. Now, I don't necessarily think that this news rules out a F2P component of the game. Perhaps anyone can log into the game for free and play up to BR5? Or maybe anyone can log in and just play indefinitely, but someone who buys the game gets unlimited customization options and enjoys leveling twice as fast, with 2x speed on skill-learning as well? There are multiple models that could be used. To be honest, I'm glad that this will be a full-ticket-price game, because I want the studio to have LOTTTTS of money and resources to keep this game HUGE. Now, on the other hand, I want it to have a massive population, so they would be VERY wise to let everyone join, even for free, while giving huge benefits to people who buy the entire game.

How official is this preorder though? I know a lot of stores will offer pre-orders of games as long as they are fairly sure it will come out at SOME point. They'll simply move your money onto an official pre-order from SOE once they release details on that. The lack of any type of original box-art plus the lack of a pre-order announcement from SOE points to this being stores just trying to bring in extra money now rather than waiting for the official announcement.

The game costs 50$? Does that mean it will cost ~40€? (But who knows what will happen to the € in the next month ... could be 200€ by then ...) |
