The idea might very well work. I have my doubts about the "live" coverage though. I've never listened to a tribes shoutcast but can I assume that they do it through the use of "observers" who are using the spectator code? PlanetSide isn't going to have "spectators" so to provide live coverage you would have to be in the warzone. What is the "live" reporter going to do when someone frags his ass and sends him back to the respawn chamber? When it gets around (and it will) who the "reporters" are, don't you think it might occur to someone that it would be fun to specifically hunt these "reporters" down and kill them? Even if they lurk in the fringes of the war zone or hide behind a stealth suit it wouldn't be hard to do if you listened to the shoutcast and figured from there where they are.
I definately see some potential for a newspaper type coverage though. CrazyMike |

It remains to be seen what sort of things we can do with the AGN. It certainly is an interesting concept tho hehe. Tribes and any other shoutcast from that matter is usually done from an obs mode, which would make a PS type cast a bit more challenging than anything else.
As for newpaper type reports, thats what our newswire will be all about. |

I don't know if it would be worth it to start this thing up, before logging in, but It was really well done. It did sound alot like the news radio programs today. They did a good job.

only problem i see is.. you'd need half a dozen reporters or more per server, you cant 'see' what the other 2 empires are doing, so wont be able to see/report on fights involving the 2 other empires...
unlesss sony adds a 'reporter' type that cant do anything but run around and watch =p |

Ya know what DiosT. I think that's a really good idea. I don't think they'd do it but that would be really cool if they did. I'd just bet that people would do it if they made it available. Hell, you could probably even put it on your resume'. The things you wrote, the events you covered...could lead to a job with CNN. Ya just never know.

A "reporter" class would be interesting, but difficult to automate. In otherwords, we could add a "reporter" certfication, and give you access to a special area to post in if you had that cert...but we couldn't make you write any articles...much less police the quality of those articles. So it's not likely to be an "official" part of the game.
On the otherhand, I would seriously love to see some great shoutcasting of this game. The shoutcasts for Tribes were excellent and I'd like to see that sort of coverage happen in this game. Of course, the traditional shoutcasting just plain old won't work. The games don't ever end. However, if the "shoutcasters" followed an Outfit and sort of created a CNN-like diary of what that Outfit did for a week or month, distilling all the cool stuff together to give a better overview of what happened during that time, it would probably be an excellent download. I'm thinking more of the "Wolf Blitzer"-style report from Desert Storm. I don't see much else working...but my mind is open. Thoughts?
