Having to discern whether or not the person you are zeroing in on is friendly or not is EXTREMELY satisfying, though a lot of people who haven't experienced this wouldn't know, and are probably the reason we have the friendly detection suggestions.
If you are going to make it easy to tell who is friendly, you might as well remove dark nights and just have a "day" night where wouldn't tell it was night unless you look up and see the stars. |

Simple, run it like the SEAL Team six used to be run. If you kill a SEAL, you die. Enemy or friendly, somehow, you will die.
But, in PS, just make it so if you kill a friendly, you get killed, booted back to some far corner, and have five minute weapons lock, and a cumulative total of kills gets you stripped of every single weapon but medical or engineering applicators, and the inability to drive any vehicle over 2 mph. There, now let's see how casual people are about it. Put the onus on the person on the trigger to not kill friendlies, not the guy who is being killed by his own empire.

Catering Team kill to people means they will never learn. I'm sure everyone(well mostly) will get the hang of having to move a few paces away from your teammate who is blocking your line of fire or crouching in a narrow area to let other people fire as well.

Many ps1 veterans are convinced the old grief system should be enought.
However i dont think so. Ps2 is f2p and ps1 had subsribtion. TTK in ps2 is lower. Player base is different now than it was 10 years ago. Ignoring all those facts is rather silly. So about the f2p. It mean that there will be a lot more people playing. And also random people who havent even watched a ps2 trailer will be installing the game just to try it out because it's free. That means that A LOT of new and completely unoriented players will be coming into the game and in their first few hours of gameplay, while they are still runing around with no idea of what's going on,they will be team killing like crazy. The low TTK wont help things either because big battles will be a complete and utter mess. You'll be dieing from friendly fire probably 30% of the time if not even more often. And keep in mind the general player base is VERY different than it use to be 3 years ago. That period between 2003 and 2007(before COD4 release and consoles started to infest the market)the average gamer was much better, learned more quickly and didnt troll as much. But in the year 2012 even the average PC gamers are so brainwashed, used to retarded and easy games and have pretty much forgoten what it is to play a game that have a learning curve. Not to mention that the amount of trolls around the internet and in games specificly have increased DRAMATICLY. And trolls dont have to worry nearly as much about getting banned in an f2p game because of 2 main reasons: 1)Even if they do get banned, they havent payed anything so no biggie. 2)Even if they do get banned, they dont have to pay to make another account, they can just make one for free and keep on trolling. In order for a game to be really great nowdays,it need to be atleast a little fool/troll proof. I doubt closed beta will show just how much of a problem TK can be,since the players there will be mainly ps veterans(even though i havent played ps1 i completely agree and respect that decision of SOE.Games should be tested by their veterans and their opinion should be the most valid. If only EA/DICE did this than bf3 could of been saved)and they are unlikely to troll or make n00bish mistakes who to shoot. However when the game goes into open beta and even release,i think it would really start to show. I only hope SOE will react accordingly if TK does become a major problem. |

I was thinking of adding a system that is only active in the first hour/hours of gameplay of an account. In planetside 1, there was a system in the VR that prevented team damaging: everytime you damage a person in any way (one bullet is sufficient), a popup will pop up saying that you should not damage your team mates. You will not be able to shoot until you close this pop up.
This can be used in Planetside 2, which will be turned off after a certain time of playing the game. This way, if a troll's account is closed for TKing, and therefore wishes to make a new account to continue trolling, it will constantly get the pop op and not being able to shoot whenever he or she hits a friendly with just a single bullet. If your goal is to TK as much as you can, this pop-up can make the whole act just frustrating, therefore making trolling with new accounts much less attractive. In addition of course, the grief system should be placed in the game during all times. |

It at least prevents trolls from immediately being able to troll again. Instead, they will have to wait for a significant amount of time, before they can start with TKing. This is already some deterrent to unwanted gameplay.
If a troll really wants to waste that much time for trolling, well, then that kind of troll will be hard to stop with any kind of system, but most trolls are not willing to spend that much time, just to troll. |
