Heck, my system specs rock (P4 2.53, 512MB, GF4 Ti4600, Audigy2, IBM Deskstar 80GB), but I would freeze alot, especially when entering large battles. It drove me nuts, and people on these forums told me to get more RAM. I blew them off thinking that 512MB was more than enough.

I was building a system for a friend though, and stuck the 256MB from his system into mine just to see. Holy crap that makes all the difference. Suddenly, I spawn in the sanctuary, and when I walk through the spawnroom door to the outside, there is NO lag whatsoever. The game became 100% playable, so I highly recommend that you try more RAM before you blow the game off.

And yes, IW2 rocks, except for the fact that the last level is almost impossible to beat for some reason. I think maybe my playstyle doesn't fit it so well. When I blow up those damn glowy things, they always set off a mine......ug!

Nimbus,

Thanks for the great advice. My technomancer friend who helped me build the system also suggested underclocking it, but PS had just been released, so I bought a new system to be sure I could play it (a little manic, I suppose, but I have no regrets).

I'm going to pull Crashy out of its coffin and perform a few arcane rites upon it. If it works, I promise to kill a NC in your honor whenever possible, and to execute Vanu more painlessly in the future.

Good luck, I really hope it works for you.

I just realized my little-bitty vid card is shot. I have had my case open for an hour now and I can barely keep my finger on the upper heat-sink. Just ordered a ATI Radeon 9800Pro and am looking seriously into the A7N8X with about a Gig of Corsair PC 3100 or something Ram. If I build it right I should be good to go. PS is very demanding.
