Role-Playing is great, not everyone takes it to the extremes, hell, fps's are all role-playing games in the most basic sense... YOU are a PLAYER in the WORLD of the Game =) just like an RPG...
very, very few role-players actually play games saying stuff like "Hail, m'Lady, I am Sir Gareth of Ubersville, Would you like to accomany me and my traveling companions on a raid of a nearby bandit force?"
bleh lol.. In my 10 years playing Role playing games, table top and online, I've only met -1- person who took that to that extreme, and over 50 who dont...
"Role-Playing" in PS can be as simple as your style of play, Such as, Choosing to snipe, actually sneaking around behind enemy lines, getting cover behind a tree, thinking the best way to approach the situation of 3-4 guys ourside a base, lining up shots, and taking fire, hiding, taking another shot, hiding, etc.... You just role-played... Just in a more visual sense... you played the role of a solo sniper, as he -might- actually do it... as with all role-playing games theres often more then 1 way to accomplish the same goal...
Anyway... RPG'ers are NOT simply people who overobses with the game and take on a 1st person persona in game, and sometimes out ... =p
Almost everyone role players, the degree is all that matters...
and in PS, i doubt they'll be many 'obsessive' role-players... cant communicate fast & safely enough to do so in a FPS....
but there will be a LOT of people who take on the 'roles' of transport pilots, tank pilots, jet pilots, Snipers, Front-line grunts, commanders....
There would be almost no good games w/o some level Role-playing... The Sims---you play the 'mayor' in many of them(sim City), or the farmer(sim Farm), or the Owner (Sim Tower, etc.), a 'grunt' for some force(most FPS's), the 'racer' (Any racing game), the WW2 soldier (bf1942)... We'd have things like Tetris and MS Paint w/o Role-Playing
