While it has been done the only swords that were folded 1000 tended to owned by emperors or extremely wealthy samurai families simply due to the time it took and the amount of money that had to be paid out. Most katanas were folded 200 times. Even the 35th generation desecendent of the Masamune family confirms that.
(For those that don't know the masamune family is a legendary family of sword makers
some even claim that he developed/perfected the folding steel technique)

But remember that the majority of the samurai armor was made of layers a leather sewn together by silk so the armor was very light and flexable the only pieces that were metal were the armor only the arms. Most Samurai armor was deemed as Funeral costumes something nice to die in.
P.S. I'm not trying to flame you or anything just adding facts. Katanas are among my favorite weapon for hand to hand combat and the samurai are the most interesting warrior class ever In my opinion (besides the Knights Templar but thats a different story)
P.S. again: I inherited a katana from my late grandfather that was stationed in japan for 7 years. He said he had it made as a reminder of the years he was there. the paper work is at my grandmother's house but it is authentic. it has papers of who made it and when it was made I believe it was made in 1951 but I'm not sure.
