Edit: JESUS! Teh oversizedness! Insert picture of Sig Sauer P226 Here.
Might not be that shiny, but they are the finest name in swiss firearms.

Trig - in Florida, there is no limit to what kind of firearm you can carry.
Its a concealed WEAPONS permit. If you were able to hide a 4ft sword, you could carry that with you. That being said, my recommendations.

If you want a concealable pistol that is not full size but not a compact, try this:
hk p2000

Smaller version, the p2000sk - subcompact in .40 and 9mm

Also, I'm going to be in the Gainesville area this weekend. If you would like to get an opportunity to handle and fire a .40 p2000, let me know. You pick the range

Another excellent VERY concealable pistol is the Seecamp, if you can find one. They come in .32ACP, and I think theres a .380 variant.
A cheaper .380 that'll get the job done is a keltec .380. You can fit it in your back pants pocket - they make wallet holsters for it.

The gun katas. Through analysis of thousands of recorded gunfights, the Cleric has determined that the geometric distribution of antagonists in any gun battle is a statistically predictable element. The gun kata treats the gun as a total weapon, each fluid position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents while keeping the defender clear of the statistically traditional trajectories of return fire. By the rote mastery of this art, your firing efficiency will rise by no less than 120%. The difference of a 63% increase to lethal proficiency makes the master of the gun katas an adversary not to be taken lightly.

i dunno, i've used them quite a bit, and i think my p99 is at least equivalent to the USP, not including my personal bias. they're processed through the same proofhouse, by the way - have the same stamps on the frames
