Sorry to break this up... but I had to add my $2.43, okay?!
Alrighty then... let's compare! What we know about the three empires from a story/roleplay perspective: Terran Republic - Still loyal to the rest of the Republic, despite being seperated from the rest of the empire via the closing of the wormhole. It is assumed they are to be slightly more of a millitary dominated society then the other forces, much like Sparta from ancient Greece. But that is assumed only. New Conglomerate - Wants a freer society. That's it. This could mean that they are trying to break away from the tyrannical TR to form a system of government similar to the US, or it could mean they're a bunch of yahoos who hate rules, and are fighting for anarchy. It's probably not the latter, but it is not specified. Probably akin to the Athens of ancient Greece. Vanu Sovereignty - Wants to monopolize on the alien technology. Whether this is for the benefit of mankind or to enslave it is not specified. Probably will be most like the corporation of Microsoft during the early 21st century. From a weapons standpoint (minus vehicles, as I beleive we haven't been informed of all the vehicles yet): Terran Republic - Focuses on a machine gun type strategy. Seems to have more moderate damage, low delay, and medium ranged weapons. This type of weapon is usually good in most conditions. Only problem I can see is that they'll eat ammo like a bunch of termites traped in an old wooden antique store. This means it may be expensive to keep ammo supplied, and/or ammo will take a lot of their inventry space. New Conglomerate - Has more of a shotgun approach. High damage/delay, short range items. Not to say that all of their weapons are high delay or short range, but it seems to focus on that. As someone said earlier, it will be difficult to take a base from them if you need to go inside the building. Of course, in the open their uber shotguns will not be as useful... unless you hapen to let them creep up right next to you. Vanu Sovereignty - Uses energy weapons... From what little knowledge we have on this, it seems it will either use no ammo, have a type of "battery," or all of their weapons will use same kind of ammo-type (energy clip?). There doesnt seem to be any recoil penalty on these types of weapons. Their pistol is high damage. but short range. The rifle/anti-vehicle types have long range and medium/high damage respectively. Also, they have a strange weapon which will inflict medium damage if hit with actual projectile and light damage if close to it. As to the pro's and con's of this... your guess is as good as mine. What this displays in writting: we know NOTHING of these empires! All we have is what they're supposed to look like and what kind of hand held weapons they'll have. So... as of right now... if we decide exactly what empire we'll be, it's like making a decision on which clothes we're going to wear in 6 months from today. We'll probably have some of the same clothes we do now, but we'll also have some new ones. And some of our old clothes may get holes in them, or some friend may come over to your house, like that shirt, and STEAL it! Then you'll have to hunt him down and beat the snot outta him because he didn't ask. But anyway... yeah. Not enough info. Based on what knowledge of the above I have, I say I'll go Terran. They look DAMN cool, and before they took off the two empire pics, I liked the way their heavy armor suits looked. Well-rounded. Pun intended. And to answer someone's observation: no, Terran seems to be the least chosen right now. I've seen a MILLION people all shout NC in one unified (yet slightly ugly) voice. Well, maybe not a million, but at least 10. They say they look... cool. Ergh. Don't know what they're smokin' but hey. It's what makes the world go round.' ~Zarparchior of the Great Central Sun. |

Well I am really leaning toward the Terrain Republic. It's just my stlye to want to crush the Tree Hugging Free Thinking Hippie New Conglomerate, and what can I say about the Vanu Sovereignty? they'll be easy to spot on the battle field with there Tin Foil hats (so the aliens can't read their minds), and their Star Trek wanna be phasers. Beam ya up??? I'll beam you straight to hell!!!!
Thanks to both Zarparchior, and Incompetent for the great posts. |
