Algebra's pretty easy, IF YOU KNOW how to do it. factor this problem:

X^2-144

If that took you more than 10 secs to figure out you need to do more homework :-P

Now try this one:

2x^3-40X^2+192X

thats just the basic algebra stuff. It gets more annoying like tell me whether these lines have infinite solutions, no solution, one solution of where they intersect

5x-(-3y)=13
y=3x+5

that's actually kinda easy

I remember when I came up with the ultimate plan to cut class and not miss anything...I set up a tape recorder and then put my head down and went to sleep. When I went to listen to it later, halfway through the tape I hear the teacher say "is he with us? Should we check his pulse or something?" and then one of my friends replied with "nah." She didn't even wake me up.

Yeah, if you're a beast. Ten hours a day, every day? Maybe 10 hours for 5 days a week is common, but I don't know anyone that works 70 hours a week.

Edit: Sorry for not making that one post.

Lol, Arshune, you are admittedly in high school, so, excuse me for being brash, but wtf do you have to compare to? You know your parents AND THATS IT! There are SO many jobs that practically REQUIRE beastly amounts of overtime. Ask Dave Georgeson how much his team puts in every day! A friend of mine is the Art Editor for a magazine. When it comes to weeks within the deadlines, they all bring in sleeping bags and work till they drop. A guy in my Tribes 2 clan puts in *amazing* hours. You say you don't know anyone that puts in long work weeks, well, my friend, you live in a very small circle of the population.

I don't know what kind of homework YOU'RE giving, but the homework at my school is basically garbage. It does nothing to teach;
Again, homework's purpose is NOT to teach. Thats the classroom. Homework is for practice. But I'm done, unless something really stupid is said after this, because I most likely won't change your mind.

I know a lot of adults. I happen to have more than two adult family members, not to mention a few adult friends. Mother, father, brother, sister, grandparents and a few aunts and uncles. All told, that's like 10-15 people who don't work more than 40 hours a week.

My point wasn't really about homework's intended purpose, it was about how it hasn't helped me at all. For most students in middle school and high school, homework is just a big waste of time. Most of the concepts they encounter just aren't complex enough to justify extra practice.

Anyone who thinks most kids are lazy needs to look at different kids. Most people I know have part-time jobs in addition to their normal school responsibilities. I used to work 20 hours a week in addition to the 8 hours a day I went to school. So a good portion of us barely have time for a good night's sleep.

In my experience, teachers let you off on homework if you behave well and do well on tests.

That's only if they're cool teachers. Some of them get insulted if you aren't struggling through their class.

Actually, I'm going to back up a little and say that I don't mind teachers giving homework as long as they don't grade it. I just don't like extra practice forced on me, especially if I don't need it.
