since GM's were involved refereeing it and it was on the PS main site, along with devs organising it...there was nothing unofficial about it.

if it were to be a regular thing though, as people mentioned, it would need to be abit more automated when the events on, certainly nothing like what we see in WOW or something, scheduled outfit vs outfit battles, and a GM kicks it off, just with proper tools for it.

Why that would be a thing to put into the game. I'm not understanding what line of logic would lead you to walk into Planetside and say "This is all well and good, but you know what it really needs? Fewer people and an unchanging strategic environment!".

Pretty much Talek.

Like others have said I want persistence and one world (albeit multiple servers), and instancing runs counter to this, so in pretty much any MMO I'm going to oppose it.

If you really must have instancing for outfit wars or other duels like 1vs1. Then at least make it that if the rest of the game can't impact the instanced gameplay the instanced gameplay also has zero impact on the rest of the game.

This means that those participating in instanced outfit wars and other duels:
1) Get no BEP or CEP (or their PS2 equivalent)
2) No activity effects/adds to merits
3) Training time will be equivalent of a character logged out of the game.

I think some people still dont get outfit wars...i giveup.

Im sure those outfit wars in PS1 impacted the game SOOOO MUCH....its unplayable with those 60 people in an instance...fact is...most of those 60 people would have not been online...or even subbed... if it were not for outfit wars.

this is why this wont effect the gameplay.

I'd like it as a once a year event thing, like a world cup of PS

There should be no arena of any size to que for ever, but I would like an outfit wars like tournament held once or twice a year. Maybe even have monthly/bi-monthly duel Tourneys, those were always fun back in the day. But again, NO ARENAS PLEASE.

*edit* and I like Helwyr's list

Were you around for Outfit Wars at all? It actually got the community pretty excited considering the game was semi dead even when they did it back then (not nearly as bad as it is now of course). Outfit Wars in my opinion is a great way to bring the community together, while also letting Outfit distinguish themselves. Be it the best of the best or even lesser known outfits showing what they can do.

Empire wars happen 24/7. The Outfit Wars as people already said would be a tournament style setup that would be once or twice a year. Not exactly taking out too much time is it from Empire wars I think. Even if they had say 2-3 of these going on at each time that should be note effect PS2 population that much if SOE is aiming for thousands of players to be on at one time.

Community building is why like I mentioned in the previous post. A static environment for outfit to compete would be nice for once. No interference from other group is what is needed. A major problem in the original Outfit Wars was CE. The devs did not have any tools to decon it, and I remember a few outfits getting busted by previous CE setups from people who where no longer par taking in the event. In order to try and even get rid of the CE the GMs where running around with unlimited EMPs, given the vast area it wasn't feasible.

I agree with this 100%. If there is say a permanent area for outfits to duel at anytime this would at least force them to not use that area all the time.

Are you talking arenas in the sense of it being open 24/7 or having the combat area be an actual open arena instead of something akin to a small cont?

My personal take on this is I would like to see a static environment for outfit training and outfits being able to go head to head. Not entirely sure how I feel about 1v1, but I know in the past those types of tournaments have been big. I doubt it would be that hard to setup something properly for that even if it will be setup similar to a Biolab lobby. With Helwyr's suggestion list I think this is doable. Outfit training isn't used by all outfits and probably will only eat up about 1-2 hours a week at most. Outfit verse Outfit can even be limited to 1-2 matches a week to avoid groups doing it that often as well. That could even be put towards per account as well to avoid people just making new chars to continue it.

Was referring to being something you could que for 24/7, but a big open area would be stupid too

I don't think I buy that cutting the number of outfits in a battlespace down to two is going to suddenly cause community building, but if you're going to follow Helwyr's rules and it's going to be some sort of semi-annual thing then fine, I guess.

Maybe you could use the VR arena for these events? Or a copy of it? That could generate a lot of side benefits. Including encouraging the devs to make a VR arena. >.>

I skipped alot.

In Guild Wars they had an automated tournament system. Worked very well for them. Could work for outfit wars. Or possibly something similar with some tweaking to fit in Planetside.

See people can compromise .

Obviously this will not catch everyone's attention for community. I see it capturing quite a few anyway. We need events in PS2 be it server wide or down to Outfit Wars like back in PS. I just do not want this game becoming stale after 2 years due to SOE not supporting it. Depending on the development of EQ3 this maybe SOE's next bread and butter till then.

Re: Outfit wars

Honestly, I wouldn't really want to take the devs off developing the actual game to work on this. Sure OW in PS1 was fun, and my outfit mates raved about it, but I just can't see it being at all important to put in the game.

Although, I do have a clarification, would OW be an elimination tournament or just random matchups among registered outfits?
