if it were to be a regular thing though, as people mentioned, it would need to be abit more automated when the events on, certainly nothing like what we see in WOW or something, scheduled outfit vs outfit battles, and a GM kicks it off, just with proper tools for it. Why that would be a thing to put into the game. I'm not understanding what line of logic would lead you to walk into Planetside and say "This is all well and good, but you know what it really needs? Fewer people and an unchanging strategic environment!".

Like others have said I want persistence and one world (albeit multiple servers), and instancing runs counter to this, so in pretty much any MMO I'm going to oppose it. If you really must have instancing for outfit wars or other duels like 1vs1. Then at least make it that if the rest of the game can't impact the instanced gameplay the instanced gameplay also has zero impact on the rest of the game. This means that those participating in instanced outfit wars and other duels: 1) Get no BEP or CEP (or their PS2 equivalent) 2) No activity effects/adds to merits 3) Training time will be equivalent of a character logged out of the game. |

I think some people still dont get outfit wars...i giveup.
Im sure those outfit wars in PS1 impacted the game SOOOO MUCH....its unplayable with those 60 people in an instance...fact is...most of those 60 people would have not been online...or even subbed... if it were not for outfit wars. |

There should be no arena of any size to que for ever, but I would like an outfit wars like tournament held once or twice a year. Maybe even have monthly/bi-monthly duel Tourneys, those were always fun back in the day. But again, NO ARENAS PLEASE.

Empire wars happen 24/7. The Outfit Wars as people already said would be a tournament style setup that would be once or twice a year. Not exactly taking out too much time is it from Empire wars I think. Even if they had say 2-3 of these going on at each time that should be note effect PS2 population that much if SOE is aiming for thousands of players to be on at one time.
My personal take on this is I would like to see a static environment for outfit training and outfits being able to go head to head. Not entirely sure how I feel about 1v1, but I know in the past those types of tournaments have been big. I doubt it would be that hard to setup something properly for that even if it will be setup similar to a Biolab lobby. With Helwyr's suggestion list I think this is doable. Outfit training isn't used by all outfits and probably will only eat up about 1-2 hours a week at most. Outfit verse Outfit can even be limited to 1-2 matches a week to avoid groups doing it that often as well. That could even be put towards per account as well to avoid people just making new chars to continue it.

I don't think I buy that cutting the number of outfits in a battlespace down to two is going to suddenly cause community building, but if you're going to follow Helwyr's rules and it's going to be some sort of semi-annual thing then fine, I guess.

Maybe you could use the VR arena for these events? Or a copy of it? That could generate a lot of side benefits. Including encouraging the devs to make a VR arena. >.> |

Obviously this will not catch everyone's attention for community. I see it capturing quite a few anyway. We need events in PS2 be it server wide or down to Outfit Wars like back in PS. I just do not want this game becoming stale after 2 years due to SOE not supporting it. Depending on the development of EQ3 this maybe SOE's next bread and butter till then.

Honestly, I wouldn't really want to take the devs off developing the actual game to work on this. Sure OW in PS1 was fun, and my outfit mates raved about it, but I just can't see it being at all important to put in the game.
Although, I do have a clarification, would OW be an elimination tournament or just random matchups among registered outfits? |
