uhhh what? Yes they have. We wouldn't be seeing these PC Gamer articles and the massive media push at fan faire if Marketing was not involved. They are in fact launched, active and promoting PlanetSide 2. I know this because the way I deal with SOE directly changed after Fan Faire.

"Sources" What is this a political investigation?
That I am not surprised about if true, he loves PlanetSide and wants to reveal information about it whenever he can. I know lots of folks here are skeptical about that, but I sat down with him face to face and he was extremely excited about PlanetSide 2. The fact he sat on the panel at Fan Faire was a pretty good indication how excited he is about the game. |

There will be tons of servers. But i hope that they will be sharing data so it dont matter on which one you actually playing. Its better than creating char at one server and be stuck with that one forever.
Its perfect solution for that rush effect that happen to every mmo. First week few hours long queues, month later most server is half empty and you are stuck there unless you want start from scratch on different server. Only downside is only one name pool, so you have harder time to pick free name, but that would affect you later in any server merges. And yes there is one empire per server limitation right now, so shared database isnt probably planned . But that could be fixed by server lock (you cant play on that server with other empires for 24hours after you played there) Last edited by ThGlump; 2011-12-05 at 01:52 PM. |

Yeah sorry about "Zero Marketting", I was a lil inebriated at the time
But I could still correct it with no major, or mainstream marketing IMO. Magazines' previews are nothing special. It is all ready a lot more then we got with PS1 but these days what we're getting is standard and expected. Until I actually see a commercial, and more media buzz I just don't really view it as being marketed. The potential for this game his so huge to me my expectations in this field may be unconquerable. Usually after a good MMO launches they have to add more servers, if it's successful they never seem to have enough. Wouldn't it be awesome if they had to go up to like 10 servers? With that kind of population you could even get into specialty servers. Changes like no radar, less HUD, organized outfits only...lot of possibilities and I do hope they bring back all the old server names

As for the marketing. I guess they might not go for any major marketing. Being f2p, it will market itself. Like the infamous DCUO by now. Never seen any marketing from them, yet it went quite viral. Never seen any real TF2 marketing, never seen any other EVE marketing except the usual AdSense.
Marketing isn't cheap either. Perhaps theres a fine line between saving in marketing and putting it into development, while using the "cheaper" marketing methods, like social media and just having a FREEEEEEEEE to play game

Let's hope they aren't using clustered solutions.
There really isn't any need for clustering now with the fast interconnects available. As long as the messaging system they use is tier based the process/node failover is seamless should it be needed. And I am confident that one server could handle all of PS2 easily. There are 80 core servers with a couple of hundred gigs of ram. All you do is split up the server to segments where you isolate resource critical components to ensure that they always have the resources needed. |
