There will always be haters, hopefully the dev's don't get too worried about the ones that endlessly rant.
I think the PS2 developers are doing a great job interacting with the community, and I hope we are at the same time helping them with our constructive criticism. Maybe the devs could tell us what we could do to help them out more?

I don't always post on PSU, but when I do I have to call out BS.
Hyping something up like yesterday's livestream of shooting the shit is fucking bullshit and a surefire way to piss people off. You don't give something a "million" on the scale of 1 to 10 and then have it end up being something hardly even meaningful. Sure, the slogan contest is neat, but did not warrant the hype. Most people were definitely expecting at least an unveiling of sorts, or maybe even some gameplay footage or SOMETHING good based on the hype Higby generated. Are the devs awesome for interacting with us as much as they do? Fuck yeah. Do these guys have a bad habit overhyping shit? Yes. Remember the SOE fanfaire? All we got was a trailer when a lot of people were expecting a hell of a lot more based on the hype around that event. I'm going back to ignoring the hype until something big actually gets announced like a beta release date. Last edited by Cadiras; 2011-12-09 at 01:06 PM. |

I'm really glad that you posted this, Hamma. I agree with people who say that disagreement is good (when appropriate) and that opinions are each person's individual property. However, it is easy to become comfortable in a good situation and start drifting into complacency. I would still be amazingly excited for this game even if the Devs were the most rigid, businesslike, uncommunicative jerks in the world, and we have THE ABSOLUTE OPPOSITE. They're amazing. They're fun, personable, creative, open, and completely organic in their presentation to us. It's unprecedented.
I think that, the best way that anyone can frame their disagreements or concerns about the game (if there are any; I sure haven't experienced any yet), is that they come from a place of COLLABORATION and KINDNESS. There is not one single member of the SOE team that is trying to antagonize us; no decision about this game is EVER made in some boardroom with a laughing bunch of Devs, saying "Haha, let's take away Jump Jets from MAXes, hahahahaha, that will piss the fans off SOOO much!" Every decision they make is with the interest of as many people having the very best experience that they possibly can. Even the most cynical fan MUST agree to this statement I am making; how could SOE possibly be hoping to make money on this game if my statement weren't true? So, with this in mind, consider how much the Devs want us to LOVE their game, and provide all feedback or concerns about the game from that place of wanting to be on their team, as they wrack their minds trying to shape us a game that will add numerous facets to this series that we already want to love. ~Zachariah |

Hamma, is absolutely right (for once ), we've been having such an incredible personal interaction with the developers for so long now, it can be easy to start to take some things for granted. I mean, if you click on the VIP Tracker...holy shit. It's simply amazing.
Having said that, we have reached a point of excitment and anticipation for this game that every day that goes by that we don't see some video or some release date is a slight disappointment. It doesn't mean that we are throwing in the towel and expect those things now. We (and maybe I'm just speaking for myself) don't expect it, but we are hoping. It's like that little kid anxiously awaiting for Christmas, only you have no idea what day Christmas will be, and it only happens once ever, not every year *cough* COD *cough*. This is the internet, so hyperbole is par for the course, but we do need to keep our criticisms about "not getting enough info" in check. We've already gotten more than our fair share. Plus, the devs do read this stuff. In most of the Lunch Time pics Higby has sent, you can see these forums up on his screen in the background, often not logged in. Hamma is right, we need to not give the impression we are ungrateful little brats. We will want more until the game gets launched, and then we will still want more, but we ALWAYS need to appreciate this level of interation with the devs. |

I'm inviting them all over to my house for Chanukah. Or Christmas. Maybe even both, DOUBLE-DIP DOUBLE-DIP! |

SOME people will NEVER "get it".
These guys are light years beyond any dev team in accesability and fan interaction. Too many fuckin' "Burger Kings" love this game.....they ALL want the friggin' game THEIR WAY. These same people probably lack the skill to set their radio alarm clock - but they feel it's their birth right to FLAME at things they "perceive".......realistic, or not. They're the real trolls of the world. The devs are clearly NOT lacking in gray matter. They know idiots when they see or hear them. Assholes are what allow us all to be STOKED when we come across somebody cool. Life contains the full gamut of emotions and actions. God willing, we're lucky enough to have a couple cool people in our circle of friends. I think MOST of the PS2 community feel like the PS2 Dev Team are ad hoc friends. I'll always have resepect and admiration - for what they've ALREADY given us fans here. Hats off to the DEV Team. They have nothing to prove to me. I'll always be a fan of this group. . TL/DR version: SOE devs announced "Faction Smackdown". Had everyone amped up thinking it was something major. Turns out it wasn't something major-league like beta date or new unseen art or whatever, was a faction logo/slogan contest like what they had a few months ago for Planetside 2 t-shirts. This induced varying amounts of cheer, but also varying amounts of disappointment from "aw shucks" to full-blown neckbeard nerdrage. Devs came on forums, said "Sorry you didn't like it", etc.
Hence: topic. |
