And regarding the lore of particular Outfits, I completely agree. I guess it brings out my inner geek; and I too think it's cool to hear about the backstory and narrative of different Outfits. In Delta Triad we used to have a member, Guru, who penned a series of PlanetSide Fan Fiction stories, involving many prominent PS players which were very well received. He did take some flak for them and I can't claim I read every one but there are definitely people who enjoy that sort of thing. Last edited by Dart; 2012-03-22 at 10:08 AM. |

at that point it's not like a game anymore though. it's like being the new guy in an infantry unit that will never be able to participate in society again. you won't be accepted and you'll probably be fragged. because this is a video-game, fragged repeatedly

There can be no limit to the amount of venues in which we want to publicize our outfit - it is a vain thing to say "No, we don't want to really publicize anymore, we think we're big enough and so well established that our record speaks for itself and people will flock to us". Large outfits get recruits in several ways - either by trying to recruit every No Outfit person they see, every day, every week, or by mass publicity to try to get people to come and join on their own. Or both in some cases. There is never enough publicity, for me. There are never enough recruits, there is never a strategy I would not want to pursue in order to make my outfit a larger, more solid group of gamers. Someone in the Enclave thread made a good point - yes, you get the "chaff" when you recruit this way, so to speak. But when the chaff falls away, you're left with a solid group of like-minded players that are a joy to play with. I can't speak for every large outfit leader, but I for one am excited and glad PSU is offering us this opportunity. I think the smaller outfits will perhaps benefit MORE, because you're right, they have less established names and such, and this is a great way to spread the word. But large outfits will still benefit - anything that gets another recruit was worth it. PS2 will have clans coming in that never played PS1 but want to make a bang, and it will be stiff competition in recruitment. No large outfit can afford to pass up opportunities like these. Again, my humble opinion - but one I'm sticking to.

For the record, in case my vociferous support wasn't an indicator - like robo, I think this is an excellent idea. The more information this community has the better. It'll also be fun to read about the various Outfits (both familiar and unfamiliar). Keep up the good work Hamma.

The assumption that a new player would know what outfits are "well known" is iffy at best. I agree that no outfit, large, small, popular, or unknown, should be discriminated against. I would submit my outfit, but if you know me, you would understand why that would not make sense. Rock on Hamma, great idea.

Outfit spotlights will be cool to get their names out their, recognized for what they do and help other outfits discover each other.
Any argument for priority or w.e is silly. Outfit spotlight isn't welfare advertising, it's just a fun community feature. |

Hamma, will an outfit listing be created from this spotlight effort ? Something like the following:
It would be useful both for new players (to find an outfit) and older players (to know who will participate in PS2). ______________ Outfit name: Example Outfit website: www.example.com Empire: NC Size/Category: up to 20 / Casual Outfit name: Example Outfit website: www.example.com Empire: VS Size/Category: up to 50 / Hardcore Outfit name: Example Outfit website: www.example.com Empire: TR Size/Category: up to 20 / Hardcore Outfit name: Example Outfit website: www.example.com Empire: NC Size/Category: up to 100 / Military Last edited by sylphaen; 2012-03-22 at 04:49 PM. |
