From watching the stream it would appear the Scythe already has a cyan trail.

I think that may have been the moon making it appear that color. I think all factions trails are that color at night.

I'm seeing white vapor trails on Scythes in the daylight right now.

I was actually thinking it was very smart when I noticed it during the stream yesterday. Maybe they'll make the color custom.
It's true that the Scythe has two contrails, but I think the Reaver and Mosquito both have 4.

I just double checked and you're right, they are just closer together than the Mosquitos.

I'd like to see them do more of a shark fin tail on the Reaver anyways, to further distinguish it's profile from the Mosquito. Either way, it would be nice to see it changed to 3 trails.

I'm definitely against TR having red contrails/thrusters. Not everything in this game needs to be color coded.

Contrails should remain white. They are contrails, after all. The 3 factions aren't doing aerobatics routines with colored smoke or anything.

But, I do think the engines being a more orange-red would be a nice touch. It would look a lot like afterburners on modern jets, and the whole point of TR tech is to stay conventional as long as it works.

An image to show what I mean:

I agree that they should be colour coded. It really bugged that they weren't when I watched the E3 streams.

Is it possible to add a poll after a thread has already been made? I can't find any option.

And then VS would troll TR by using red thrust. No thanks.

The Reaver, Mossie, and Scythe all have a different number of trails. I don't think many people realized that, and I didn't until it was brought up in this thread. I think we should just stick with using that to identify them for now, since that takes some observation.

Besides, I'd prefer customizable afterburner and engine trail effects.

Re: Aircraft thrust color

it's a good idea, but I'm not a fan of it in this game.

Higby has said quite a few times that they want us to be making gameplay and tactical decisions about our loadouts depending on the time of day. Which in my opinion will add more depth in our gameplay choices, and is a good thing.

One of the decisions he mentioned was night scopes/goggles. I imagine there will also be implant decisions that will vary on time of day. We will get kit options that will help us identify what vehicles we are looking at in the dark.

While I think the idea of empire specific thrust colours would make things quite pretty and easier to identify who's who. It will defeat the purpose of having all these optional items and loadouts if we can just wear the same gear any time of day.

I actually want to weigh the pros and cons of an "friend/foe vehicle identify" implant versus a "+run boost" implant in my third slot for night time engagements. Weighing the tradeoffs for cert/equipment/implants was a really important and satisfying thing with PS1.

So instead of empire specific thrust colours to identify alliance, I'd prefer gear options to do that.

I hadn't noticed that when watching the stream, but that is a great visual cue. If/when I get into beta, I'll certainly be feeling this out, but I think it might be enough to distinguish the different ES aircraft at high speeds.

It still doesn't address the issue of the NS aircraft (Lib and Gal) but they move much slower so the colors on those planes themselves might be enough. We'll have to see.

Not if TR just has the default blue color scheme.

Besides, if TR and NC cant recognize a Scythe from one of their vehicles, then they deserve to be trolled.
