I think a lot of you guys just have a misconception about the differences between carbines, rifles and LMGs in terms of the game.
As far as I see it, the differences seems to be rather close to RL examples, lke take the G36 assault rifle:
You have the G36K, which is a carbine.
You have the G36, which is a standard assault rifle.
And you have the MG36, which is an LMG.
The thing is though, that the base weapon is pretty much the same, you could turn any one of those into one of the others, simply by switching out barrels, and magazines for the MG36.
But the actual differences aren't as big as you'd think, the G36K can still reach out and touch someone, not as accurate as the other 2, but still reasonable.
The MG36 on the other hand can lay down a wall of lead better than the other 2, but it gets kind of unwieldy in close quarters, because it's bigger and heavier.
And the G36 is pretty much the middle ground, not as unwieldy as the MG36, but not as handy as the G36K.
More accurate than the G36K, but not as good as suppression than the MG36.
Sorry for the RL-example, but I think it's as close to what the devs are apparently trying to achieve as I can tell.
